I would say keep each sqaud to one weapon type, unless there are no undead.  Then pick something by fiat.  I recommended axes and hammers because of the way damage types affect undead and to monimize extra parts.  If that is not a concern, spears and swords might work well against FBs and Titans.  Although i do love me some hammer and axe squads.

The way I started off the original Saltmine was with only hammers and axes. You can change that if you like, but I'd rather have only two types of allowed weapons.

Well the squads I set up are all hammer dorfs, cause ya know... undeath.

Axes are a good balance.

I hope so. Should we skip a turn?

So.  I'm back, and I'm done with all school related stuff until such time as someone decides to pay me to get any more degrees.  I'll pick this save up as soon as I finish my current Masterwork community for turn and write up.  I have almost the entire week off coming, so it should be easy to get a turn going and try to kick-start this bad boy.

I am going to pick up from the last save, which I assume means skipping KingBacon.  KB, if you are out there, just tell me not too and I'll wait for your save.

Derp.  I have the nobles fort to finish and the most recent year of Umgankor to write up.  As soon as i finish those up, Saltmines will rise again!

Spartans, rise from your dishonour and return Saltmine to it's former...err...glory!

In all seriousness, is this dead or alive?

Since when have Spartans given up so easily?! Rise to arms, my brothers-in-arms! The undead will rue the day they challenged our mettle!

So yeah... I failed at remembering about this.  Do we have a viable save going?  I have time now.

King Bacon has this:
Well I have to say. My spot has goblins, kobs, and zombies. File: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8173

The tenure of commander K.Bacon saw the foundation Irnabidavus, New Salt Mine, in a small pass between The Joyous Fingers and the dead lands to the south.
His governance also established two militias, ordered the construction of deep forges to smelt arms, and a grand slaughter of turkeys for leather, tallow, and bone.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Walls of schist have been raised to divide the lands and the foundation of a schist gatehouse has begun.

Even with his success, K.Bacon's rein was not without disaster or challenge.

Undead attacks were a constant threat to the new fort, but with hammer and shield the men sallied forth from the small cave they had carved and drove back the onslaught.

The first caravan from the mountainhome turned back after one wagon had got stuck in the mountains, fleeing undead rabbits doubt.

A miner was dispatched and in an attempt to free the wagon she was crushed. I believe Sigun was her name.

Goblins also raided the fort during this first year. They were driven off with ease at first, but then, from behind a boulder, a thief came running out. K.Bacon charged at the green slag and lost his leg to the swing of a rusty iron dagger.

-Scribbled report from unknown author.

In case you missed the save link in that post, here you go:

However, I am unsure as to if this before or after his tenure as overseer.
