Kosak Durar, After The End:

"Wait a minute- shouldn't I be able to see?"

Fact: dwarves don't use light sources(see Dwarf Fortress). Fact: unless they lose their eyes, they can still see anyway(see Dwarf Fortress). Kosak attempts to activate his darkvision.

The point of keeping the golems on fire isn't for the value of fire as a weapon. It's more to keep the golems functioning at a reasonable speed.
It was never a promise. It was a dirty lie, and you all knew that. You should all know by now that you can't trust a word I say.

((Small post before I sleep.))
((Sorry for missing an update.))

Campaign, Ike!

"Ooh."

Listen in more attentively, sounds like fun business is happening.
Alan, Authoritative Maverick

"Oh, this is the black jello skull thingy, isn't it? Damn thing. Licorice never leads to anything good!"

Make my way to the argument and ascertain the identity of the monster they're talking about. Hand out eggs (no specific species) if people seem to be agitated.
"If you would excuse me for a moment, I need to investigate those evil vegetables now." you say as you shove the man in front of you out of your way.
"... What?"
He seems too confused to be bothered by your behaviour.

Meanwhile, the argument continues, even as you approach it.
"-stand around and do nothing!"
"Look. I get it. We've all lost people. I've lost people too. But we need to remain logical. Without the priest, we have no other magic users around. Nobody who is qualified to-"

You attempt to cough to grab their attention, but you somehow manage to choke on your own spit and end up having a very long and awkward coughing fit. When it's over you straighten yourself up like nothing has happened and start questioning them.
"Right! What's all this then!" you ask with a British accent. It is important to maintain a disguise, in case news of who you are and what you look like have reached this place.
"Excuse me?"
"Who are you stranger?*
Hmmm... Alan will need a convincing alias. He looks at himself. Then at his hand. And then at himself again. And then he gets an idea.
"The name is Claus. Alan Claus."
To demonstrate the truthfulness of his statement, he summons a tiny Fabergé egg
"You've been a very good boy this year. So this is for you." he adds as he hands over the egg to the older man with the shirt with the blocky shoulders. He just looks at it in confusion.

"Now, explain to me, what kind of jelly trouble are you suffering from?"
They look confused on top of being shaken from the attack, but they indulge your questions nevertheless.
"There was something strange in the air, a general sense of unease. Then there was a scream. The priest was the first to die, struck down by a large shadow. But they didn't stop. The shadows kept coming."
"If you're a group of wizards, then you can help us defeat the monsters. Follow us and help us protect our homes!" the younger man holding a walking stick as a weapon replies.
There are murmurs of assent from many of the onlookers.
"No! Please strangers. You have to tell him that going in there is madness. This should be handled by people qualified to do this sort of thing. People like... you."

My abilities don't care about amount, only about distance. I said I want all of it up there so it all. is. going. up. there.
I mean, they used to not be affected by amount, but with the way the Entities broke everything...
By maintaining your performance you are able to keep sucking fire until there is no more left to take.

You can't help but feel a bit uneasy. Like someone is staring at you, watching you unseen. As if your little show of power has attracted the attention of something bad, something powerful.

Edit: Gah. I can't believe how many mistakes I had made. Hopefully it's a little better now.

I'm being watched? Good.
"No. I want to help, but I'm not going to just blindly follow you. What exactly is going on?"
I cross my arms before me and allow my tails to fan out behind me whilst I stand still and wait for information.
If i'm the focus of attention then they aren't watching someone else.

The crowd doesn't appear to like you displaying your non-human features. A few among them were already murmuring and calling you a monster and they don't look happy about it. Most of the others appear to be varying mixes of curious and afraid instead of angry and afraid. But even if they were going to do anything about it, it appears that they have bigger problems to deal with right now

"We were attacked by some sort of monsters."
"Shadows! Shadows of the Destroyer!" someone in the crowd says.
"It's the Night Knights! The Night Knights are back to take from us!" another interjects.
Judging from the murmurs not everyone is of the same opinion. The older man raises his hands to request for silence.
"Some looked like animals. Nucas running through the streets, cacolopes jumping between roofs. Others... they looked like humans."
"They even had things with them. Clothes and armour. You could see them in their outline, despite their deformities. Some were using shovels and hoes, others were using swords and shields. Like the ones the soldiers use."
"Their bodies were giving off dark smoke, obscuring their details, especially when they were still. But when they moved, you could see... it was as if they were deformed and covered in tar."
"Nobody saw them coming."
"They stuck to the shadows and avoided lights, put them out whenever they could."
"Anyone who tried to stop them or got in their way was attacked and killed-"
"You don't know that!"
"-or worse. They could had been turned into more monsters."
The crowd doesn't seem happy about either of those outcomes. There are more worried murmurs. Someone is crying.
"Or they could still be alive and need our help! The less time we waste arguing about this here, the more chances we have of saving them! If we go now-"
"Then more people will die. We are not soldiers-"
"Or more people will be saved. Please! If you can, then you have to help us."

Campaign, Ike!

"Man, sounds like these guys sure are fucked."

Doesn't seem like they're currently being eaten, does it? Can the smacking of eldritch lips be heard from afar as children and the elderly fall prey to otherworldly terrors? Is there a smell of death and magic in the air? Anything reminiscent of that ol' jellybean we fought previously?

There are no screams coming from far away, if that's what you're referring to. Generally nothing out of the ordinary that you can see or hear, other than a ghost town. Whatever this is, it seems to be focusing on the village.

As for the smell of death, you can see and smell that some of the villagers are hurt and bloody. There's also fire and human and animal and death in the air. Nothing out of the ordinary in the vicinity as far as you can tell, although that will probably change if you move closer to the village. There's also a general oppressive feeling in the air, like the air pressure is too great, pushing against your ears with a noise just below the edge of hearing.

Well, you'd say the description definitely bears similarities. The creature appeared to be changing, so this might just be a newer iteration of that thing. Or maybe it ate so much it burst. Maybe it's its offspring, spreading to make more of itself. Kinda like a zombie apocalypse, but with magical black zombies.

Campaign, Ike!

"Black zombies! That's the kind of thing an army of rednecks would be well-equipped to handle," Ike murmurs to nobody in particular. "But the Yellowhammer State this is certainly not."

"Right!" says he at the crowd that has gathered. "Any of you people have more than sticks to fight these zombies with?"

Ike then gives Irine a glance.

<Say, can you sheathe a sword in flame? I figure we can have some fun here. Also, if large black things start to try and get into your magic, you just let me know by screaming real loud, okay?>

Determine whether this lot looks more like zombie apocalypse survivors or your average mass of dead meat.

<Not really. Swords don't burn. I can put my fire along the blade, but I'd have to control it the entire time, and I'd be moving it, not the blade.>

"Um, if those things are afraid of light and flame, then I think I can help, but I want to give you fair warning first. I'm a specialist that works exclusively with fire. If I go in there and fight those things, a lot of stuff could get burned down. I'll try to control the damage, but don't get your hearts set on having anything make it through this unscathed. Are you okay with that?"
