(Or the BETA self-destructs and so does the rest of the planet.)

Jordan yells into his Interface <"Javla helvete! John, get over here quickly or--Aggh!">
Swing weakly on the cable so the robot arm can't get me!
((You are balanced on top of the cable right now (it's kinda thick). Wanna dodge and try to grab another cable or do you wanna get down and swing on the cable you're sitting on or something else?))

(I'll go with sliding down, then. Swinging if it comes after me still.)

((My guess is that nobody wins somehow! Maybe another BETA comes along and eats the weakened one to gain power and status, then messes up the rest of the planet because that sort of thing is right up its alley.))
((But then the second BETA would win.))

The robotic arm swings at you. You fall backwards and grab hold of the cable to avoid it, sliding away from your previous location.
As the tip of the arm passes through the place you used to be, it begins emiting a mechanical whine and glowing slightly. It doesn't touch the cable but as it passes by it, a small cloud of black smoke is emitted. A moment later, cable falls apart, cut cleanly in half, its insides glowing red hot.
Good thing you chose to move away.

The arm is coming at you again, rolling on its rails.

((About 30 seconds left.))

It'll have to do.  More satchel charges ahoy!

<<Okay, I've got a functional-enough jetpack now; going to make more bombs.>>

Focus on that bomb I summoned earlier, and start making more.  Make as many as possible in one turn.
((Doesn't work like that. Most people can't remember a device they've seen only for a few seconds (or at least I can't, since that's what I'm using as reference). Could ask your entity to upgrade your memory if you win, something for repeated summoning.))

You summon a single explosive cube, similar to those your earlier explosive was made of, before a bout of pain from your leg causes you to loose your concentration and interrupts the summoning.

The cube has what you assume to be a detonator stuck into it. Wires come out of it and into a small receiver. But you failed to remain concentrated long enough to summon the remote detonator.

I like the way you think.

Damn it.

Summon up the damn detonator, trying again until it works.  When done, suit up in the jetpack and get aloft.  Head toward BETA and avoid its deathweapons.

"John better get here fast-- OH SHI--"
Oh no! The cable's falling, right? Jump to the nearest cable or wall to grab onto it.

Oh no! The cable's falling, right? Jump to the nearest cable or wall to grab onto it.
Your half of the cable is indeed falling right now. In your panic, you jump away and towards the... nothing. You jump straight into empty space. You clutch at the air, desperately trying to find something to hold on to but failing.

It is surprising how slow and yet how fast things seem to be happening while you are freefaling. You have time to see the metal support below and take in all its details. Yet your attempts to reposition your body and soften your landing quickly come to an abrupt halt when your body collides with the support.

There's a crunch and then your entire right side hurts, mostly your right arm and ribs. Everything is red from the pain and you almost pass out.

Damn it.

Summon up the damn detonator, trying again until it works.  When done, suit up in the jetpack and get aloft.  Head toward BETA and avoid its deathweapons.
Detonator summoning should be easy, it's just a battery, a coil and some-
You emit a surprised and not-very-manly scream when you feel something stabbing you in the face from the right.
After the initial surprise passes, you look around for the source of the pain. There's a very thin wire on the ground, one you wanted to use as an antenna. It has a thin covering of blood. Must have scratched you in the cheek.

It must be one of those notorious streaks of bad luck again.
At least it didn't poke your eye out.

Come on John, second time's the charm...
You get your detonator all right. You get a medium sized metal box, a bit bigger than your fist. It has a red button and an enormous rubbery antenna attached to it that could be the cause of many "overcompensating" jokes.

<<Man, we're dropping like flies.  Trying to get over to you now.>>

Suit up and start flying toward the BETA.  Summon up another bomb in flight, using the one on my person as a template.
