Claiming Thrones
« on: November 01, 2013, 07:45:07 am »

In Adventure mode, it shouldbe possible to usurp thrones by slaying Kings and Queens. You the get all of the gold, the armies and such, but then you get to rule a kingdom, be you a tyrant or a benevolent ruler. C'mon, this is awesome story fuel.

A medium- sized creature prone to great ambition, but only when he feels like it.

This is already planned:
Quote
AFFILIATION ARC: You should be able to rise to the top of an entity (civilization, town, etc.) in adventure mode. While the full set of responsibilities that would entail will have to wait, it should at least be possible to attain this status for the first version. You should be able to do things for individuals. This could earn you favors from sleeping in their home and food gifts all the way to a marriage offer. There can be smaller entities like bandits and cults which could offer more unsavory tasks for similar privileges (steal, kill, kidnap, etc.). Can earn right to sleep in the large hall in town if you've become affiliated with them, but vagrancy needs to be punished and the camping must be harsher before this is meaningful.

PowerGoal12, CLAIM THE THRONE, (Future): You prove your worth to the meadhall's warriors through repeated daring tasks until you can take the throne for yourself.

Not this patch no, and probably not for quite a few more. Maybe in 10-20 years? Seeing as this feels like something that'd come in late development :>

Development schedule after this release is anyone's guess, but Toady is already working on leadership succession and adventurer reputation, which are closely related.

Well, there are a lot of systems that have to be in place for there to be a point in achieving positions of power without it being solely a placeholder just for the sake of it. But yeah, it's anyone's guess. Personally I'd guess it'll wait until we have both army and war functionality as well as diplomacy in place since without that there wouldn't be much point in it all. Also not to forget all the framework to make it all function properly as well.

Well, I meant like only the whole usurping thing, not necessarily the ruling thing. Would usurping be sooner?

Not really. Without ruling, there is little point to usurping. Aiding an usurper, perhaps, but not usurping yourself.

Well, at a RP standpoint, I was a legendary Necro who killed the entire Royal Family, and usurped his throne. That's the story and it would be cool to see

"In 369, Lokud Horsekicks, Necromancer slew the royal family.

In 369, Lokud Horsekicks, Necromancer usurped the throne of Urist McKing, gaining the civilisation Koganusan, "The Oaken Tomes"".

I can't be the only one who wants this.
