tests show that weapons and armor made out of this superdense rock are at least comparable to if not stronger than even adamantine.

But I'm guessing you already knew this. Well, a copepr axe used with enough force and skill -can- cut through iron armor, so while material is very important, it's not a fail-safe. If you try it, don't forget to tell us how it went. If you want to try without danger, just make a backup of your save

Will do, just decided that i must kill the batman (and his cat-like form) as well as a thousand year old dragon first.

I'm tempted to call hax or mods... I don't think the game CAN pick Slade as a material for generated monsters.

in general though, that only happens when slade is modded to occur 'naturally', similar to candy

I would like to see a screenshot of this slade demon. I also believe that random critters cannot be made of adamantine or slade.

There ARE adamantine Forgotten Beasts though. Maybe it happened through modding?

I would like proof of that as well.

May be a false call, but I'm not sure. On the one hand i have a "copper fiend", with copper scales, but the guy i was talking about is described as a "slate gray monster", with slate gray scales. Probably my mistake.

heh

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Slate

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Slade

big difference

slate can be taken apart by any metal weapon I think

candy and slade are not normal materials and the game can't pick from them to create FB, clowns or titans, unless you mod them to occur as veins or clusters. Copper and such occur as a 'natural' material and are thus occasionally used for such monsters

edit:
as far as I know

I've just looked into the assembly code for selecting inorganic materials for procedurally generated creatures, and it looks to explicitly exclude materials with the [SPECIAL] flag (which includes [DEEP_SURFACE] and [DEEP_SPECIAL]); thus, it would appear to be impossible to get a titan, forgotten beast, or demon made of adamantine, raw adamantine, or slade without modding.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Well, I've heard about people talking about adamantine FBs, heck, the wiki page http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Forgotten_beast lists adamantine as a possible material. I've never seen an adamantine FB myself, so I don't even know whether it's true or not.

As for the OP, it's entirely possible that it's just a typo on his part and he meant slate, not slade.
