Limitless: a DFHack-driven adventurer suggestion game.
« on: October 08, 2013, 10:52:37 pm »

You woke up this morning feeling... funny. Like you could do anything you wanted.

On a lark, to sate some childish impulse, you decided to try to... will yourself to be a male dragon.

...it worked. You suddenly realize that the others in the room are terrified of you. You're going to change back into your standard female human form and make sure they know who you are.

Who are you, anyway? What is your name?

Hm. Perhaps I should grant myself ridiculous speed in order to do my chores very quickly?

Red head FTW

Well, yeah. Heck, you're practically famous for it. Your auburn hair has always been very differentiating from all the people in your country, who have dark taupe hair!

Willow: The Admirer of Songs

Willow the Admirer of Music*: Wait, no, don't attack! It's me, Willow Emsi Joņu!

Mudi Craftsfame: What? We weren't going to attack you, we know who you are. What's this about being the fearsome apparition we all saw?

Willow: Well, you see, I was the dragon. I willed myself to be a dragon, so I was one. Then I willed myself back, and now I'm here.

Shato Yearmine: I don't understand.

Willow: Neither do I! I'm testing what I can do. I can transform into a dragon and back, sure, but what else can I do?

Mudi: This is nonsense. The dragon could have just been one of the gods tricking us. Can you prove that you have such power?

Hm. Perhaps I should grant myself ridiculous speed in order to do my chores very quickly?

You've only about doubled your speed. You're much faster than pretty much everyone else, but it's not the dramatic change you were hoping for. You can give yourself very short bursts of extreme speed, but they really are very short.

...actually, let's try one more thing.

Success! This time, instead of just... willing (you need a better word for this!) yourself to be faster, you willed your body to work harder to make you go faster! Unfortunately, that increase shows diminishing returns--you can only get up to... about 2 and a half times the speed?

Mudi: So you can run fast. That's not on the level of power you say you have. Anyone touched by the gods has such power. Can you do more?

How do you show her your power?

Turn into demon

That may be a bad idea, but you'll never know unless you try! (You should really be more assertive.)

You transform back and put your clothes back on.

Willow: Happy?

Mudi: Out. Get out.

Willow: What? Why?

Mudi: I ask you to show your power and you do it by taking the form of one of the most fearsome beasts imaginable? It matters not that you've proved your ability to me, you have shown that you are not responsible with it, and you will not stay here unless I am gone or you have learned!

For a fleeting second, you wish she was gone so you could stay.

Shato and Abuth Fireyobscure look at you, wide-eyed. Shato is shaking in fear; Abuth in fury.

You begin to run.

You know that you can't go back there. The people of your hometown will know that you killed Mudi. The rest of the world probably won't believe the story, though; it would be wise, however, not to do a transformation stunt in the local civilization again. You feel like you know her cause of death: complete loss of blood. Everyone else will believe that a vampire was to blame and you were framed, but you will know the truth forever.

END PROLOGUE

So, What now?

1) Manifest a mining pick
2) Manifest awesome Mining Skill
3) Dig a well-shaft down to the circus
4) Manifest Popcorn
5) Teleport back up to ground level
6) Find a good seat to watch the clowns interact with the villagers

time for ADVENTURE!

Go wrestle a small animal!

CHAPTER I: IN WHICH SMALL ANIMALS GET WHAT'S COMING TO THEM

You don't have any wrestling skills; you'd probably get all cut up. Unless...

SKILL GAINED: LEGENDARY +5 WRESTLING

Well that was easy.

Now, to find a small animal.

"Drimitis doker!"

Oh dammit. You don't want to have to deal with kobolds right now. Why don't they just all up and die--

Okay, you may have just caused a genocide of all kobolds. Or just the ones attacking you. You guess you need to be really careful about violent thoughts.

So, small animal. There's a barn owl over there. You wring its neck and it dies. That was boring.

1) Manifest a mining pick

That worked.

2) Manifest awesome Mining Skill

And so did that.

3) Dig a well-shaft down to the circus

Why would you want to do that?

4) Manifest Popcorn
5) Teleport back up to ground level
6) Find a good seat to watch the clowns interact with the villagers

1. Can't do that
2. Haven't tried that, but it'll probably work.
3. You've left the village. You ran. They'll be out for your blood, and even if they could harm you, you don't want to harm them. They're your childhood.

Transform into a dragon before the king/queen and then ask for a quest!

That seems like a good idea.

CHAPTER II: ADVENTURES IN QUESTING

Chapter will begin next page and be filled in as you head towards the capital. Encounters will be kept short.

CHAPTER II: ADVENTURES IN QUESTING (cont)

You come across a river. You've never been able to swim, so you decide to fly over. You realize that transforming into a flying creature will remove all of your clothes, so you strip naked and stuff all of your clothes into your backpack.

After that, you transform into a roc and try grabbing your backpack. You can't grab it, though. You do it again as a harpy. You try as a roc again, and this time will the backpack to be carried by you.

It works and you haul the backpack containing all of your stuff over the river.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED: INVENTORY FORCING

Once you're in the capital, Powerrout, you find yourself thirsty and hungry. You decide not to be, and there you are.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED: HUNGER AND THIRST CURE

It's night-time, so you decide to sleep in the chapel. You wonder just how much you can get away with in manipulating yourself, so you jump down all 9 meters.

Your ear is torn apart and you lose control of your legs entirely. When you transform into a badger and back, you lose all of your injuries.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED: CAN STILL BE INJURED.

You go to bed for the night.

Yeah, that's a good idea. You are now the world's best swimmer.

You wake up and head towards the keep. You search for the king or queen. You find the Lord of the keep. You ask him how you can be of service and he gives his standard dismissive fare. At this, you transform into a dragon and back and ask again. He says that he does have a job for you--speak to the First Gloss, Nek Dimpledlauds.

What do you do?

ask that guy about jobs, and if he dismisses you, go help the local town for a quest or two... And then be sure to eat the corpses of any enemies they ask you to slay

You ask Nek about a job. She gives you the same line as the Lord. You ask the people around and they tend to say things like "Death will come to you soon enough"; you guess that they've already taken care of their bandit problems. You have a strange feeling that the lord didn't want you to talk to Nek about jobs.

What do you do?
