Best way to un-stick a stuck goblin siege?
« on: October 05, 2013, 09:14:16 am »

My current fort just had its first goblin siege and I was really excited as I finally had a chance to test out my new minecart powered trap defenses.

....except it is stuck on the map edge. They aren't attacking unless one of my dwarfs wanders too near.

I don't have the raw military to just up and defeat them in the field (I don't have any weapons grade ore in my embark)

I realize this is because the leader is mounted on a giant cave swallow and his pathing bugged out. My fort is open (to encourage pathing through the trap zone).

What is the best way to unstick the siege? Is there some command in dfhack that might fix (or just delete) the leader? Will they eventually leave on their own?

They leave your fortress if enough time passes. This can take very long though.
I can't help you with DFHack.

Recruit some hauler and send him on a suicide mission. The leader might get unstuck if he sees a nice juicy target.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

Tried it, lost 4 so far this way. I might go for a lone crossbowman to take a pot shot at the leader's mount to see if that does the trick.

Drop magma on them, with dfhack liquids.  Just spawn 2/7 lava in a 3x3 square, 1z level in height. it should either light them on fire or melt them.

It will also likely start a massive forest fire on your embark level, so be sure you have the ability to prevent your dwarves from going onto the surface for a while (burrows or drawbridge).  Also make sure the proper goblin death items are forbidden, to prevent them from rushing out there at some point in the future.

Make a 1 UNARMED dwarf squad and send it against the enemy. As soon as the enemy reacts to the dwarf, pause the game and disband the squad. Have a burrow active inside of your fort for your civilians. Once you unpause, the unlucky dwarf should away and the goblin squad should give chase. If you're lucky, the dwarf will make it back inside with the goblins in tow.
