Could we may be ask our father to spare one or two guards men for our protection[/b]?

Most assassins our usually deterred by an armed presence of guards . Also keep a dagger hidden away in our person.

A knight of the crown and a palace warden have been assigned to you as bodyguards for the time being. Along with Barick, Elwer and your new "Royal Protector" Serles that makes five dedicated to your protection more or less full time. Along with that are the sleugh of protective magics laid on you by the palace wardens, the men Barick has apparently hired to watch your back from afar, and the mercenaries in your employ. You're almost always armed with a sword or dagger as is, and requisitioning hidden armor to be worn surreptitiously was one of the first actions you undertook after the assasination attempt.

Wether this is sufficient for your current physical safety though, is still in question.

That should be enough manpower for now. Add a "signal" that the bodyguards should give us in case they see something overly suspicious. If they do than we excuse ourselves from the games citing a cold or something.

Concerning the escort:

Also for when we talk to penrod inform him about the assassination and that we'll be using some disguises for when we escort him back home.

Basically i'm thinking that we'll leave the city with us on horseback in a showy way and then we'll go off the road with our personnel guards to change into a soldiers uniform (face covered) and switch with someone who will pretend to be us (who's face will also be covered), while we just hide amongst our comrade mercenaries (the one's we purchased and are hopefully loyal enough to protect each other and not know we are amongst them) until we change again where need be.

That way we'll fool any assassins who try anything while we're on the road. That or just not go telling penrod we fear our lives and that us being there could cause danger to them while on their travels.

That sounds silly. Half the reason we are taking this trip is to socialize and schmooze with our various traveling companions. Just warn Penrod that there could be trouble.

A bit of Theorycrafting/Ideas on the Assassinations:

Regrading what weirdsound said:

EDIT:

"You, Raynor Casar were born the second legitimate son of a King, and you were a remarkable child to say the least. You won over nearly anyone you spent time with and established yourself as a forward thinking and intelligent leader even as a young boy."

From the first page under the Plot summary spoiler, very first sentence. If we're following the agnatic-cognatic primogeniture wouldn't we be the one's next in line since our brother william (who im guessing WAS first in line) got taken out of the succesion plan?

If i'm right that would make Erin third in line, IF my logic is right. GM could you clarify this just so that in the future theirs no confusion?

Also do we know who the second child of the concubine is?

Erik was recently legitimized, and he's older than you.

Was reading that and was coming to erase that edit. Sorry mlam :-[

Also didn't barrick complete the tourneys that were going or did I not read correctly?

EDIT:

Alright, I need some time to go back and re-read before I just jump in and start giving my huge suggestions full of daring schemes as I usually do.

For now, quietly arrange to watch tomorrows Tournament with some of the visiting nobles from Adalbert. They are, IMO, less likely than anybody from our own kingdom to be trying to kill us, and they our likely loyal enough to our brother in law to act in our defense if another attempt is made on our life, and if I remember correctly, our champion Barick is from Adalbert himself, so at least we have a place to strike up conversation.

Talk them up during and before the fights, try to get to know the key players in their court.

Also, write that letter requesting an audience with Penrod. I forget what we wanted to ask him, but I'm sure it will come back to us.

Edit: Invite some of the young nobles from our own court to tag along with to watch the games with the Adalbert delegation, that way it dosn't look like we are publicly and singularly supporting the other nation in our own city.

forgot to +1 this.

Raynor Casar, Royal Prince of Analysse, popular claimant on the future crown.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In large part it's a quiet night, and you mostly quietly make arrangements and tend to your day to day affairs, sending and reading letters connected to your business and political affairs. The businesses you own stakes in are in large part bringing in steady -if modest- profits, though one or two of the truthfully mediocre metalsmiths you bought out are proving to be something of a poor return for the time being. You and Sir Bepher have secured a few low-pressure cargo runs to and from nearby Analyssian cities, the profits will be slim but the runs are as much to train the crew as anything else. If all goes well they should be finished the jobs by the time you get home. Captain Verack is preparing his men for travel as well, and you are both hoping that the march will give the new recruits valuable experience.

You make arrangements to secure space for you and some of your followers among the more influential of the Adalbertian attendants, though those not competing or squiring in the tournament are quite few. Among them is Penrod's cousin Friedrich, one of his few living family members and apparently a noteworthy scrymaster. You suppose Penrod and your sister will also be sitting with that sparse party. From what you can tell, since the surprises of the last tourney only a few days prior excitement for this one has grown all the stronger. You're sure that with your entourage of courtiers and toadies having sufficient Analyssian representation in your party should be a simple enough matter.

...

Again your sleep is troubled by poor dreams, night terrors that sap the will. Images are burned into your mind of a crowned man wearing the skin of another, of poison liquid bronze draping desperate warriors, of many legged creatures tearing through earth. An eastern sky seems to move into the west, in danger of swallowing it.
When you awake you are covered in a sheen of sweat, and the servants who feed and dress you remark that you seem pale, and worry over you with just a little more care than usual. You chide yourself in letting such childish dreams get the better of you, but you cannot shake the foul mood that seems to have set upon you.

As soon as you find yourself ready to begin the day your bodyguards are at your side, including the new "Royal Protector" Serles, who seems to have acquired a Tabard sporting the standard of your family. His ear seems to have been healed closed, though most of it remains missing, and will remain so his whole life. All the same a grin is stamped firmly on his face; you suppose that with his few prospects and unimportant family getting injured defending a prince was probably among the best things that could have happened to him.

You spend the morning on ensuring that both Sir Bepher and Barick are ready to compete in the tourney, finding a few eager young noble youths to squire for each of them, and making arrangements for any of the equipment they might lack. Judging by the gossip of your entourage, news of the attempt on your life has spread lightning quick among court, a fact that isn't helped by the eager storytelling of Serles. Perhaps you should have tried to talk to him about maintaining a semblance of secrecy. Penrod seems to know too, judging by the subtle implications in his reply to your letter, in which he agrees to meet with you privately after the tourney is done.

And at last the second and last of the tourneys held in the honor of the royal wedding is upon you. Any last minute decisions to be made should be made.

I'm starting to think these dreams are magical attacks than they are dreams, they're's no way we could dream all of this twice.

Anyway order the palace servants to bring us banana's or other calcium C fruit for a snack with Serles. Let's see what kind of person he REALLY is and if we can get him to at least not talk so much about the attempt in our lives...tell him it annoys us when people talk so much. But make sure to be friendly too we don't want to put him down.

BTW the calcium C is to help us be less pale and weak looking.

The assassination attempt cat is already out of the bag. We can and should talk to Serles about discretion later, but right now he can do no more harm with his mouth. No point ruining his mood at this moment.

+1 I misread this.

I guess having a snack to liven up our bad mood is all we can do.

Edit: Regarding the dream,

Poison dripped bronze and the eastern sky taking over the west?

I think we need to ask penrod or barrick about the east in general. Are there people who wear others skin in that part of the country or close nation? Are the bandit brownies there? Who leads them? What wild eastern tribes are the most prevalent? Are the bandit lords United under a certain group of people?

All questions we should ask.

I know it's not nice to double post but i just wanted to ask the GM how old our sisters are?

Maybe we can take them along before we leave for a week again or is that too last minute?

What i really wanted to ask actually is if the update is coming today (most likely not by this point) or tomorrow? Very antsy about this game ever since i saw it.

I honestly don't recall if I posted about the return or not, but I am very happy to see this back. I don't post a lot of suggestions, but I do enjoy reading some well thought out prose.

Raynor Casar, Royal Prince of Analysse, popular claimant on the future crown.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Once Sir Bepher and Barick are outfitted and ready for the competition you find yourself, your bodygaurds and a handful of young nobles seating among Penrod's party. Penrod himself seems reserved, dressed in fine clothes lacking much adornment, save the sword at his side. He's seated at a plump cushion with Ritalia, who's attention is fixed on the falcon perched on her glove. When Ritalia notices your arrival she hands her falcon to her handmaiden and greets you eagerly. "I am glad to see you are well little brother. I worried for you."
Penrod smiles lightly "That she did. The timing of all this could be called poor." Penrod's smile turns into frown darkly at that last word. "Perhaps that was the point."

You wave away the danger of the situation nonchalantly, keenly aware of the audience, and wishing to save the topic for more private discussion. "I brought a gift for you that i thought the both of you might appreciate." Waving your servant in you present Penrod with the elaborate chess set you had crafted. The base is polished bronze and folds in on itself for storage. The "white" pieces are silver and studded with saphires, while the "black" are a dyed gold studded with emeralds. You are pleased by the extravagance of the gift, and also at Penrod's deep surprise. He takes a piece in hand and closely examines it, assuring you that the hidden message of the pieces will not be lost on him.

Soon enough the events of the tourney begin, and you settle in beside Penrod's cousin Friedrich, who you find to be a polite and intelligent conversationalist, though not totally fluent in Analyssian.
Barick is entered into the one on one combat bracket, and he's eagerly anticipated by those who were won over by his performance in the last tourney. His first opponent is another promising newcomer to the one on one bracket, the third son to a count's steward known primarily for killing a Knight who challenged him to single combat.
Barick is armed with his warhammer, and his opponent with a duelling sword. When the match begins Barick charges into the fray, and is immediatly disadvantaged when he slips in the middle of his swing. The swing goes wide, and barick suffers a blow to the helm from the blade of his opponent. The blow seems to put your champion in a daze, and he is unable to defend himself from the array of blows that follow that first successful strike. Barick drops his hammer, and with an elaborate flourish, the dueller trips your champion, dooming him to defeat in the very first round of the one on one bouts.

It's humiliating and deeply surprising to have a champion that won you glory in one tourney be so thoroughly trounced in another. A servant you have sent tells you that Barick is not seriously injured, but that he is dazed enough that he'll need to be looked after for a few hours. He'll probably be able to compete in the grand melee later, but the healers will need to keep him under observation to be sure.

The remainder of this event goes more or less as one might expect. The duelist that defeated Barick progresses repectably far in the tournament before being defeated by an Adalbertian knight, who is successively defeated by Knight-Commander Gerald. Gerald redeems himself from his earlier defeat at the hands of your champion by winning the event.

"Prince Penrose, what do you think is the greatest trait a warrior should have to achieve success?"

"I believe it's tenacity. No matter how much the giant slams you down or how the sharp knife plunges deep, a true warrior spits out the blood and is back on there feet. Have you ever fought off the impossible Friedrich?"

Just some intelligent conversation that we know our Prince would engage in.

Raynor Casar, Royal Prince of Analysse, popular claimant on the future crown.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The next event is archery, and your vassal sir Bepher is competing. As the event commences you make friendly conversation with your seated neighbours, including Friedrich, about the sort of thing that makes a great warrior. Many of your companions state the obvious factors, skill, training, experience. Your bodygaurd Sir Walter mentions awareness of his surroundings. The mage Friedrich himself posits that awareness of ones own abilities can be the primary factor of life or death engagements. As a friendly debate ensues among the assembled Penrod himself ventures his own opinion, that the most important factor in the success or failure of a warrior is not his own abilities, nor his own awareness of them, but rather his Chief's awareness of his abilities and how best to utilise them. A warrior of the greatest skill put in the wrong position by his commander will fail, and a peasant put in position by a commander who fully understands the depths of his capabilities will always succeed. A man is only as capable as the one in charge of him is competent and knowledgeable.

Sir Bepher does respectably in the event, though he lacks the excellence and showmanship of the archers experienced in the tournament circuit, and is knocked out of the competition with the majority of passably skilled archers.

Sir Bepher also competes in the joust for a second time, and he seems to have learned from his failure in his last joust. Perhaps he's a fast learner, or perhaps he's practised the last few days in anticipation of this tourney. In the first turn of his first joust both of the combatants land blows squarely upon eachothers shields, lances broken. In the second turn the Knight Bepher is jousting misses, while Bepher brings his lance to bear, squarely breaking it on his opponents shield. The Third Turn ends the same as the second, much to Bepher's credit. Though you can't see his face beneath his helm, your Knight salutes you in the stands before the fourth turn, in the fourth turn both of the combatants miss, lances catching only air. In the fifth and final turn both Bepher and his opponent break lances, meaning that your Knight has scored his first ever victory in the Joust, though against a poor country knight you don't know the name of.
His second match is against a more experienced opponent, a Baron by the name of Vossik, who's son is one of the courtiers with you in the stands. Bepher misses in the first turn, while Vossik skillfully lands his lance at it's mark. In the second turn both men make their mark, though Vossik remains a point ahead. In the third turn Vossik widens his lead by another point. In the fourth turn, spectacularly, your vassal is unhorsed, flipping end over end upon the ground before being fetched by the squire you provided him. He limps off the field, defeated but you didn't expect him to win against a vetaran Jouster like Vossik.
One Adalbertian Knight named Oskar destroys the competition, including Gerald. From what you've gathered he's the same Knight who won the joust in the last tourney, and he's been humiliating the best jousters in the kingdom. Your Uncle Robilard competed, something he hasn't done in years, and he was unhorsed in the first turn by Sir Oskar.

The Mage duels are next, and surprisingly, only a third of the combatants who competed in the last tourney have enlisted in this one. From what you can tell, everyone is just too afraid of Sir Kaelack "The Grim" to risk competing. Kaelack stomped any of the mages that dared to face him in the last tourney, and with his tendency of overwhelming the wards of the tourney wardens competitors cannot be assured of their own safety. Kaelack never competes in tourney's and you suspect that the only reason he is doing so now is as a show of force from your father. Even those mages who compete keep a wide berth from Kaelack, every mage that is matched with him withdraws from the competition for the largest portion of the event. Until Ulmient, a foreign mage you know little about, is matched with him. His courage is impressive, and his casting lightning quick. Throughout the match Ulmient speeds across the tourney ground with aid of magic, staying just barely ahead of the destructive effects of Kaelacks spells. All the while Ulmient never stops casting, continuing to lay a barrage of light offensive spells, poking and prodding more than anything. Ulmient at one point even takes to the air and flies in circles around the powerful warmage, avoiding the destructive magic of his opponent just by a hair at any given moment, redirecting course at a moments notice when resistance is ever found.
During the match, the wards fail utterly, and the Wardens are forced to call a pause. During the interlude, Ulmient withdraws, looking like he is about to collapse from exhaustion. Kaelack however, seems as unfazed as ever, and goes on to win the event without having to so much as fight a second opponent.

The final event is the grand melee, and the time for Barick to compete has come. Through servant he assures you that he feels able to compete, and apparently this is corroborated by the healers.
