I'd break the news of the impending barnoing to Sekhon and arrange a backup wedding gift through him in case the smith dosn't pull through, and then time skip until the Groom and his party Shows up. We should try to socialize with the Aldbert nobles a bit before the wedding if possible.

This is good.

A week passes, a week you spend mostly making preparations and gearing up for diplomatic contact with the nobles of another nation. You see little of anyone but your various attendants and cohorts, sending them on errands and having them fetch documents or information for you. You send word to Sekhon that you've probably secured entrance into nobility for him and your mutual allies, in thanks he sends a letter along with a generous sum of gold, and assures you that the crown will be similarly reimbursed.
You spare some time to see the metalworker you contracted, and give him some pointers and suggestions on how some of the pieces should be depicted. You are pleased to learn that the metalworker has decided to put several other less pressing projects on hold to ensure the completion of your gift on time, freeing you of the obligation to work out contingencies.

Penrod arrives a day early, with nearly a hundred people in tow. Two dozen Knights and their squires make about half of the party, while the other half consists of courtiers, pages, and men at arms. The prince is met with fanfare at the city and the entire royal family -not to mention half the court- meet his entourage at the palace. The first thing you notice as he marches up the steps to meet you is that he's acquired a gem studded eyepatch, he's also dressed in some of the finest armor you have ever seen and has made the effort to remain clean shaven and well groomed, hardly the barbarian you might have thought him only a few years ago. Up the steps with him come three of his Knights, and a young man in fine clothing who you are not familiar with, the rest of the party stand at attention just barely outside the palace gates, and will soon be brought to food and lodging.

Penrod and your father grasp wrists in a firm handshake, and exchange some brief words. Penrod asks where Ritalia is, and the king replies that he won't see her until the wedding. He winces slightly at this, but says nothing more on the matter. During this exchange you find one of the Knights is staring at you- no he's staring at Barick. The man's visor is clamped shut, so you cannot tell what might be on his mind, and that is enough to make you uneasy.
Penrod turns his attention on you, and his face and tone lighten. "Ah, Raynor, good to see you boy. I've been practicing chess lately, hopefully now i'll have an edge on you and your sister eh?" He chuckles and claps you on the shoulder good naturedly, and you welcome him with equal cheer.

With that the festivities of the lowborn kick into full swing, and the majority of the day is spent merely getting the Adalbert Knights and Courtiers settled in. You do what you can to take advantage of your honing of the Adalbert language with Barick and engage some of the nobles in conversation. Everyone Penrod has brought is a direct vassal or member of Penrod's court, and you learn he's only brought a third of his Knights, a dizzying prospect. A few you've already met and call by name, but most of your time with the nobles is spent merely in introduction. It annoys you a little, but most don't seem very interested in speaking with you. You're used to being treated essentially as an adult, and many of the Adalbert nobles are almost casually dismissive of you. It's jarring to be treated as a child, even if you are indeed still shy of adulthood.
Ritalia is sequestered away, as is tradition. Only handmaidens and her mother and father are allowed to visit her for the time being, a tradition with roots beyond memory. You wouldn't mind seeing her yourself, but while you acted as her father once you certainly don't count as one here in Analysse.
Your uncle Robilard arrives sometime in the confusion with a few of his own knights and courtiers, he spares a moment to say hello to you, and mentions that he was dissapointed you didn't come to see him, but that he understands there are other things that need attending to.

The wedding between Penrod and your sister is arriving closer every hour, within only a few days the ceremonies will be upon you, and a few days after that you will be joining Penrod and Ritalia upon the road.

We don't have much time to earn the respect of the Aldert Nobility.

Just enjoy the Festivities. oh and tell bareck secretly about the knight. tell him to be careful and avoid disrupting about anything.

By all means do this. But turn up the charm offensive to a maximum. Keep some of the local nobility who are impressed and awed by you at arms length at all times to serve as wingmen/foils, and focus on bringing together the younger generations of the Aldert and Anlyeese upper classes.

Perhaps plan some kind of ride, fishing trip, or hunt for the day after the wedding.

Maybe a chess tournament?

^ We have no idea what is Adalbert youth culture and their idea of fun. We should find out before doing any activities with them.

Just ask them "hey their i am {so and so}, me and my freinds are going to have a mini-chest tournament wanna play?". We already had one with penrod. Plus i feel their could be the culture lovers who just want to learn about us as much as we do about them.

So, sorry for my lack of frequent updating. I'm settling into a new job and working really hard at it, which leaves me with little energy, but i'll adjust.

Anyway, your father has arranged a tourney that will take place before and after the wedding. I should have mentioned it earlier, but it leaves Raynor uncertain if he can garner interest in another social event.

Ask our contacts to watch as you and prince penrod go for a rematch on a chess tournament. Hopefully more of his people will follow their prince and play too.

The next day or so is a blur of activity and excitement. You find yourself glad you've been brushing up on the language of your new guests and seek out young adalbert noble's to get to know and spend time with. Everywhere you ensure you have an entourage of young courtiers, squires and apprentices, enough so that it seems a small party seems to hover around you at all times, within the larger party that is the entire palace.

Most of the young Adalbert noble's who have arrived are squires and pages. The squires tend to follow their Knight's everywhere, attending to their every whim, while the pages are more or less free to do as they will. Sadly you make very few friends of them, but at least you manage not to step on anyone's toes.

You do manage to gather enough people to manage a rather large sequence of chess games while preparations for the tourney are under way. You beat your first opponent easily, an adalbert page whose name you don't quite recall, your second game is against a landless courtier, Rephar; the first son of a Knight, the game goes on agonizingly long as each of you makes a few early blunders and then settles into defensive play. It takes a lot of time, but you manage to take Rephar's queen in a rather complicated set of moves that takes too long for you to set up, victory comes soon later. Your next match is with your brother Eric, who just barely managed to make your invitation. As you talk you are pleased to learn he will be joining your escort after the wedding, as you talk you find yourself distracted, and Erik takes advantage of that distraction to severely disadvantage you early in the game, and you struggle to keep what pieces you have before being placed in checkmate.  The last match of the tournament comes after another match, between Erik and the girl Malehsa, Sir Geralds daughter. Each seems to underestimate the other in the early game, and pays dearly for it, but as time goes on it becomes clear that Malehsa is the superior player. Neither makes many mistakes, but Erik is slower to react and plan. He makes a daring gambit at the last moment, but has it turned inside out against him, and loses every single piece at his disposal before being finally beaten.
It strikes you after this brilliant victory that you have nothing to offer to the the winner just now. You had expected at the last to face Penrod, and you were defeated before that could occur even if he had arrived. Regretfully he is busy with preparations for both the tourney and wedding. You wonder if he wishes to compete. It would be odd to compete in a tourney held in ones own honor, but it would not be unheard of.

The first stage of the tourney will take place on the morrow, two scant days behind the wedding. It will consist of jousting, a grand melee, archery, one on one combat and even mage dueling. You take some time in a brief lull to speak to Barick about the tournament, and warn him about a knight that seemed rather interested in him. He reminds you that he's Adalbert by birth, and that some of his countrymen may recognise him, and that not all are friendly.
Barick also asks you if you want him to represent you in the tournament. As a lowborn man the right would normally be beyond him, but if he was on the field as the prince's sword it would be a different matter. He tells you he's never jousted before in his life, and that he's a poor archer, but that he could do well in the melee or in one on one combat. He leaves the decision to you, and tells you he cares not one way or another.

It also strikes you that you havn't seen your vassal around, he also could represent you in the tournament in lieu of or in addition to Barick. Even Rai could compete in the mages duel for you.
Of course, you could also compete yourself if you feel able...

Yeah, give Barick that grand melee, he deserves it. Don't get ourselves into the mage duel - instead, get a trusted mage, maybe Rai, to sit beside us while the duel takes place, and ask him during the fight about certain spells and tactics. As in, learn theory by watching practice.

However, that knight could be aprt of the melee and i'd rather not have him chopped in half by some vengeful minor noble who we can't do nothing about.

Maybe we should just stay out of the tourney and root for Prince Penrod and Erin. oh keep our eyes PEELED in case we see the knight again {did he have an insignia?}.

Update on GM status:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, it's worth noting that some protective enchantments are laid upon weapons, participants and tourney grounds to reduce fatality and maiming that occassionally happens in such events, broken bones and such are still common enough.

I think let Barick do the melee and one on one combat, and let our vassal joust (or archery, if he's good at it). I think just watch the mage duel, as I doubt anyone we enter would make a strong showing, and it'd be tipping our hand, so to speak.

Also, ponder the idea of getting a custom chess set to belatedly give to the victor of that chess tourney. Because chess.
