I will say this again, find a book on offensive and defensive magic or at least a tutor.

Raynor Casar, Royal Prince of Analysse, popular claimant on the future crown.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At last, you return to a routine, and at the relief you feel you can tell you very much needed it. Your routine is a stretch however, and you find yourself neglecting your magical studies, and your time at court.

You do make some effort to continue your studies, and you make some progress in strengthening your understanding of the theory of magic, and are restrained only by the amount of time you are also putting into other matters. Your scrying isn't making much progress yet, but you feel that as you mature and learn your raw strength in the field is gradually increasing. You call in Isvan, the apprentice who has given you some lessons in the past, and he provides some practical demonstrations in relative secrecy. He's an able enough teacher, and what he stumbles over you manage to guess at using what you know, and you can't help but feel he's benefiting from the lessons nearly as much as you are. Though your progress is slight, you do learn a few tricks.

Your time at court is spent in very large part with Keshlans, or on behalf of Keshlan nobles. You do what you can to introduce those friendly to you to the right people at court, and subtly drop to a few that you might be able to push for a reclamation of the Keshlan isles one day. You've made some friends, which is putting you into a better and better position either to aid or hurt the merchants within your city.

Within weeks of the order, you and Barick are brought for your final armor fitting. You are dressed in a rather light suit of armor, primarily scale male and dyed green leather, with solid greaves and gauntlets, and a griffon motif helm to complete the outfit. Barick is dressed in a very solid suit of banded mail, with the request to leave the joints free of all but leather fulfilled skillfully. Neither set of armor is particularly visually impressive, but they function well enough. It's unlikely you will fit in the armor for more than a few years, and may have to get adjustments regularly as you grow, depending on how fast you do so.

Barick has you wear practice armor from the palace armory as you train now, and it's brought you back to being at the edge of exhaustion very quickly in your training, it would seem that even a little more weight increases the work required in fighting quite a bit. You don't really get much in the way of training though, and progress very little.
Instead you fill that portion of your time spending time with your new tutor. He's an elderly scholar who was once a general to your grandfather, though he's lowborn, and now landless. He's strict and remorseless in his lessons, but a very skilled teacher, drawing examples from historical battles and challenging you to theoretical battles in order to make a variety of points. He imparts a dizzying amount of information that even you have a hard time keeping up with, but the lessons seem to have already given you a solid understanding of logistics and the efficient use of resources in war-time.

Using your newfound wealth, you invest heavily in businesses and work to turn the right heads. You arn't exactly in a position to make a guild of your own, and it's going to take a lot of time and work to potentially reach that point, but you work on pulling the strings necessary. Firstly you buy out and partner with what metal-working businesses you can. Unfortunatly you find that the local metalwork businesses you were in a position to buy make pretty mediocre work, made more for expedience and price rather than quality. You also decide it might be best to be able to transport your own goods by sea, and buy yourself a somewhat aged galley. Currently the Galley is manned mostly by poor sailors of equally poor discipline, and without a proper captain, or a ship's mage. This will need to be rectified, or perhaps you could commission the ship to a poor knight of the sail for a time, and share such troubles with a man more experienced, though you would also be sharing a large share of the profits.

The last bits of the month provide you with some news. Your half-brother, squire Eric has been named a Knight of the Crown, and there is very brief talk of him being provided with a bit of land before your father legitimizes him as his son. You double take at that bit of news. Eric is older than you, and therefore has a better claim on the throne than you, even born to a concubine, though you are fairly certain he's poorly suited to such a task. Then there is the fact that Robilard is still the named crown prince. Well this... this is a poor development in regards to your ambitions, and you will have to think on how to proceed very carefully.
Amidst all of this Sekhon sends you a message via one of his young child servants, who you are beginning to suspect are indentured. He's willing to provide you with a place in his guild, as a repressentative of the royal family, you would sit on his council and vote on decisions with the rest of them. It's yet another thing to consider.

Much has happened, and you are possibly another step farther from the throne. What are you to do?

Hmm, how about we start making better friends with the powerful people in court, through a combination of childish innocence, and strategic cunning.

How to Deal With our Half Brother: Ask Ritalia to speak ill of Eric and his mother at court, while extolling the virtues of your own mother's house to provide a future king. Perhaps insult the concubine to her face. Ask her to be harsh, and to spend all her remaining political capitol and goodwill at court in one blaze of glory for you and your mother. Your father can't punish her too severely as her marriage is arranged and she will be leaving court soon. If anybody asks you about the matter say that you are above such petty squabbles. Perhaps even apologize to Eric and his Mother for your sister's behavior.

Shit happens, remember that. Being the king in a battle means you're first to go in and the last to go out, and if you're a pansy like Wladyslaw II Jagiello and you just stand at a hilltop and watch your troops die for you, you get some unhappiness. Of course, if you're a good tactician, not so much, but still. I think we can assume that Eric is fairly inexperienced compared to us, which I can not be sure of as we didn't have any confrontations that ended in something requiring other skills than diplomacy. And from that we take advantage - if he doesn't happen to survive a battle or angry mob, we'll just hop on that big golden chair, mourn Eric and at the same time eliminate all his supporters.

Some friendly exposition: Eric has little experience in court, but quite a bit of experience in skirmishes with the bandits and tribespeople of the borderlands, and has been instructed by some of the finest warriors in the country. Though you have been pretty busy the past month, and were away for three months before that, leaving nearly half a year that you don't have a clue about.

Okay, fine. No evil Prince Shenaingans for now. But here is my update to Jass's nice proposal on how to spend out time for awhile.

Okay here is a list I made up

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Some Long Term Goals Related to the Schedule:
-For our metalworking guild to be: Continue to try and buy new businesses. When you can afford to take the hit, produce goods at a loss to undercut prices and ruin the competition. Also do your homework and try to steal talented smiths/apprentices from the competition by offering them a better wage and a decent signing bonus.
-For Sekhon's Guild: Use your vote in the guild, and your own charisma, to get the Keshlains to invest in the following three areas: 1. Buying out or destroying arms importers from Adalbert. 2. Building and Buying Out Shipyards. 3: The creation and sale of military grade magical goods. The Keshlains should profit while the nobility gears up to go to war on their behalf. Also use your contacts with the Keshlains to find a good skipper and sea mage for your boat.
-Become close to our younger sisters. Gauge their potential, and groom them to be your allies in court when they are old enough.
-Keep an eye on your brother. If he still seems unstable and paranoid, perhaps it is best to get him out of the capitol. If so, try to arrange him a marriage with a family who holds land outside of town and get him to move in with his in-laws. If he seems to have calmed down a bit, see if he would be willing to invest in your metalworking guild plan and use his own education to help you run things.
-Just be there for your mother. Between your sister being married off, all the crap with your brother, and your father being under his concubines influence, she is likely having a rough time of things.
-Our limited time at court should mostly be used to set up social arrangements on the weekend.
-Our weekends should be spent attending social gatherings and working influential nobles one on one. Win the over to be our eyes, ears, and mouths at court, and talk them into investing in our business ventures.
-Also while socializing on the weekends, we should start compiling a list of women we would consider marrying in a few years. In general we should look for girls of high ambition and/or intelligence. We should in particular look at women related to the old Emperor of Keshla through whom we could theoretically claim a right rule the islands some day.
-We should spend an hour or so each night practicing our Scrying before bedtime. If possible, we should hire people to place stronger wards on our quarters, both to protect our privacy and offer tougher training.

Yeah, let's try to be on our half-brother's good side.

After all, we are much more experienced in the court than he. Why should we help out our own blood?

Besides, the less experience he actually has in the court, the more we'll have. And if he does somehow become king instead of us, perhaps he'll trust us and we can influence him into doing what's best for us.

Also, yeah, marriage might be something good to look at soon.

Couple of ideas we should wear our armor almost all the time, also start riding the horse within the city if allowed. I changed Saturday and Wednesday morning to train with Berick.

I believe we should try to get a poor knight of the sail to use our galley for us. We don't have the time to give it the love it requires and sharing profits is better than no profits.

I think we should take the position on the foreign guild. its good to have strings connecting to another country, we can make sure their dealings are good for Analyse and its a good way to form ties to people who want to liberate their country.

wearing our armor everywhere is good training, but it will hurt our public relations a lot. it might make us look paranoid after all... dad did think there was a real threat to us since he gave us a dagger. maybe we can start wearing some armor that's less apparent instead?

about our half brother... lets go digging for some information with our own mother, why is she being ignored while a concubine is being paraded around? also lets ask our sisters.

Lets find that mage, that had some influence over the Father. He might know a lot more about what is going on, but will probably be cryptic about it. However, he might point use in the proper direction for the information we need.

The current tutor seems to focus more on strategy while Berick is good for weapons training and honing the body.

________

Also once again find a tutor or a book that will help us practice some offensive and defensive magic.

Tutors are for teaching. Just because some is good at something does not mean they are good at teaching it.

Maybe he is, though. It's just important to note their "teaching skill" is a factor. Tutors exist for a reason, and so do bodyguards.
