I still think we should check on Sir Raymond, just incase those burrowing monsters show up. We could give some forewarning to father about these beings. Anyways suggestion on what we can do for the rest of the year;

!. Find a Mage willing to take a apprentice or get a book on offensive and defensive magic.
2. Jog everywhere in the city, only use horse back when necessary.
3. Continue to practice scrying within the palace and maybe within mother's study if given permission.
4. Only speak in Adalbert language with Berick, so we can continue to practice it.
5. Get a better sword for Berick as thanks for training us.
6. Continue to diversify our current businesses.
7. Continue working on politics.
Need more ideas, add you own.

on 6, i think we need to diversify in the way of war materials such as healing salves, weapons smiths, Armour smiths, and anything else. Why? because the island that just had a  coup/revolution is now hostile to our country and we should fix that. Ya, know make friends via killing enemies.

Really now, those burrowing worms are nothing Sir Raymond can't handle, and even if the situation gets hot, he can call in knights that are a wee bit more experienced in this stuff. We can't do anything serious to the worm anyway, so let's just get to the capital.
As for the suggesionts, I agree to 5,6,7 and maybe 2, but we gotta be careful and jog only in safe districts during daytime. You know, thugs and stuff.

We're in home turf here i don't think thugs have the strength or Gaul to take a military escort that has a prince and princess with them. Also we need to talk pming you in a bit.

We should expand into the mercenary business. The squad we have is fairly loyal to us. What we do is send a bunch of men to the Adalbert noble for training and when they get back split them into mercenary squads each lead by a competent and loyal member of the group we have with us now. We hire those squads out and take a cut of the payment for ourselves.

This will not only be a profitable venture in troubled times, but is also a good way to keep abreast of what is going on in the world by debriefing the mercs when they get back from jobs.

While I also highly doubt their French-ness, I'd be worried a bit about assassins. Although, a band of brigands might try to capture us as a ransom. We're only thirteen years old, it wouldn't be too hard to do.

I doubt it a kidnapping of that magnitude would have to be REALLY organised OR alot of brigands. We messed with them last time so they shoudn't be hell bent on coming back at us unless they have more dudes which i doubt. Again this is a military escort w/warmages any attack/kidnapping would be above their heads.

As for assassins...we're slightly paranoid because of our older brother but don't we have bareck and our squire with us at all times?

Unless I'm mistaken, brigands don't belong to a central organization. There are always going to be some who are desperate enough to try, and maybe succeed, at kidnapping us. It's just that they don't often get opportunity (since we don't jog down alleyways at night).

Also, if we always have them with us, a smart killer would wait until we are most vulnerable. We would be considerably less protected while jogging 'round the town than we would be in a secure location. Like a building.

I'm under the assumption that us and our sister are in the core of a camp surrounded by loyal soldiers from our country and Mercenaries who are sligthly loyal {or maybe not} to us for our money and compassion. Not to mention our personnel guard members. An again the killer can come when he wants but when we're not moving in the open road at daylight {with our troops} were sleeping while they guard our person.

I'm not saying it can't happen though and we should speak with bareck about making some small precautions against this.

You decide it's probably best not to make the detour, perhaps you could visit him sometime, or send him letters. It's a bit of a long trip, but it might not hurt you to see a bit more of the country as you grow older, particularly considering you might very well be sitting the throne one day.
Not saying a word of it to anyone, you continue the journey as planned, and try to find ways to occupy yourself during the trip.

Your wrist heals a little slower than you would like, but in another week you feel no pain even when straining it. Returning to training with both sword and shield you take Barick's advice to heart and rely mostly on your shield, keeping your sword in reserve to deflect attacks your shield could not or in order to take advantage of openings. This strategy doesn't really do much to help you when sparring with Barick, but it does help you ocassionally get an edge on the shield-less Elwer when you train with him. Your shieldwork is seeing noticable improvement, though your swordwork still isn't very good.

You also begin thinking about new plans to put into effect once you get home, and you have plenty of ideas, your time out in the world and within another country has given you some insight. In particular you think about expanding your businesses and making money in the trade of goods useful in war, and perhaps even starting a mercanary company of your own. Verack and his men certainly might prove a start if you can convince them to stick around for a time.

Ritalia finds she's still not acclimating well to travel, and you're beginning to feel the effects of so long abroad too. The poor food, poor rest and monotony of endless riding either on horseback or carriage is maddening. Your joints ache, you're always dirty, food turns to dust in your mouth and your bottom feels rubbed raw. Occasionally you walk your horse just to experience something different. Barick chuckles a little whenever he notices your discomfort, and tells you that you will get used to it one day.
During one such conversation you suggest that the two of you talk in the Adalbert tongue as much as you can together, it couldn't hurt to become entirely fluent, and it's a good way to get to know Barick and the culture of your soon-to-be-inlaw better.

...

One night, you are thinking to yourself you are very glad that you are only three weeks of travel away from home, when you feel a strange sensation wash over you. You note that everyone else in the camp is asleep, and barely have the presence of mind to buckle on your belt -sword and all- before you hobble out to satisfy this odd feeling. You are nearly out of camp when you snap back to your senses, aware suddenly of some alien presence invading your thoughts. You are vulnerable, out in the open, and you do not know from where the source of this intrusion comes. You draw your sword and stumble back to your tent, wrestling whatever it is out of your mind entirely as you do so.
You grab desperately for your hand-mirror and summon what little mental discipline you can still muster in order to scry. You barely manage to summon an image, and search desperately for some spellcaster or monster in the nearby area that could be the cause. You hear someone open the tentflap and mutter questions at you -Barick- but you keep them out of your mind and continue your attempt to scry, but are interupted. An earsplitting headache causes you to groan loudly and drop the mirror, and it takes several minutes for the headache to fade. By that time bodygaurd and squire look down at you in concern, and bringing your hand to your face you find yourself suffering from what would seem to be quite a nosebleed.

, then get a slapsquad set up! Not literally. Just to stop us from zoning out via manipulation. Perhaps our bodyguard would be good enough, but just in case, a squad of ten extra surrounding us!

Mustering control of yourself, you tell Barick to get Sir Evanson and make sure the camp is mustered, and that you've suffered from a magical attack of some kind. Elwer helps you to get dressed and clean your face, and soon you are ready to speak to the Knight.

After telling him what happened, and that you believe you should get on the road as soon as possible, Evanson agrees, but insists on combing the immediate area first. Fetching some kind of ornate rod from his packing, he takes about half of his men into the wilderness to search the area in teams. Barick and your mercenaries stay with you, and insist they stick close.

In about an hour Evanson returns and relays to you the story. Tramping through the woods was pretty unsuccessful, but they caught sight of a woman in the woods who was having equal trouble. The woman was definitely a spellcaster, and managed to hypnotize a few of the men before being driven away.
To be safe, travel begins again, frightfully early. A few of the men grumble a bit, but some of the men also keep deathly quiet, clearly disturbed in some way by the events of last night. It's a very lucky thing that you snapped out of your trance when you did, who knows what she wanted with you?

...

Travel continues, and while at times you cannot help but feel eyes in your back, nothing more is seen of the woman who tried to lure you into the forest. Barick instructs you same as he did before, and you eagerly anticipate your arrival home, as does Ritalia.

The last few days of your travel are relaxed and leisurely compared to all that is behind you. Villagers occassionally gather to cheer at your passing, no cooking fires need be made as innkeepers and merchants are eager to take care of your needs. A few trinkets are given to you by people you will likely never see again, though you know the gifts are made in the hope that you might.
At the last the soldiers you've come to know along the trip halt and are replaced by parade gaurd, though they give up their posts grudgingly. Servants dress you, Evanson and even Barick in fine ceremonial armor, though Barick regards the flimsy metal composing it with disgust.
Ritalia is dressed in a flowing gown and saddled to her new horse, which you note is still a remarkable specimen.
You wave at crowd and grin broadly, happy to be back among your own people. Ritalia too seems happy, though a touch of sadness colors her smile.

After a great show for the public and a slow leisurely ride, you are back at the palace, still dressed in flashy plate mail, and your father is there to greet you in fanciful attire of his own. A set of armor fashioned to make him seem more like a lion, a play on his own nickname "Lorin the Lionhaired.".
He greets you and your sister, and officially relieves Evanson of his duty. He then takes the arm of your sister, and leads her up the steps. Sticking close to his side is a woman you don't quite recall, though she seems familiar enough for you to be sure you've seen her around on occassion. Also there is Erik, the Kings Squire and your half brother. Neither William or your mother is in attendance, though you see even your other sisters kept out of the way by their maids.

You find yourself very self-concious just now, worried that perhaps your father won't notice all you've done for the kingdom and the family. Once you are at court, king and princess immediately become swarmed by courtiers and landed noble's alike; offering congratulations, suggestions and all sorts of questions as to what the match might mean in this matter or that one. You yourself manage to snag more than a few courtiers yourself, but instead of being asked endless questions you yourself begin seeking the answers to questions you have about current events.
You learn things are more or less the same, with some exceptions. It seems your aunt has been executed by Keshlan revolutionaries, she had been married off to some Keshlan general well before you were born so you've never even met her. It also seems that some sort of Keshlan merchant faction is beginning to take hold in some coastal cities, with a base of operations here. Hrmm, well that could be trouble.

You grow weary of overexuberant courtiers very quickly, and retire to your rooms. Your personal steward informs you that you've recieved quite a bit in the way of material goods. Mostly income from your businesses and gifts from those trying to gain your favor. Most of those gifts are fairly impractical, ornate swords, jewlery, decorative art... essentially material wealth; but there are some magical devices in the lot, and an armorer has sent in a request for your measurements. It seems he made your ornate armor, but he wants to give you a set actually worth your time.
Your steward also informs you that quite a few of your businesses have sent you quite large sums of money. Not from income, but rather from an individual who has been buying partnerships with your partnered businesses while you've been away. The businesses you own outright came out unscathed, and some of your partners refused, but others caved in to the money being offered. Worse, as you temporarily gave your authority to your partners in your absence, this is all perfectly legal.

You have well over double the wealth you had when you left, a sum worthy of a prince indeed, but it's come at a price.

Maybe we can ask some spare soldiers to sleep around us for protection as well as our bodyguard.

EDIT: so island rebels killed our aunt and a merchant faction of these kelshan's or whatever are running around in our turf {{posibly buying our partnerships}}. Time to pay this merchant faction a buisness in the form of "who's side are you on?".

Seriously bad economic news so far. Also see what the court feels about going to war to install a new kenshan faction loyal to us versus the rebels. If, yes go for the war economy so we can finiance a nice and long bloody war. If, not look to other markets or even cornering our brother in laws markets...you know since they have none and it would probably be SUPER easy to complete a economic coup in the area. Thoughts?
