It is time to depart. we have imposed ourselves enough and trying to learn more about local military matters can only harm future relations and make life for our sister more difficult.

These local matters are making me a little nervous, I say we defer to sir Evanson he was put in charge of transporting our sister safely and we already 'stole away' his honour to act as a father during the sitting ceremony. I think taking a large band up the mainroad is probably best... if there are local revolts then there may also be highwaymen.
+1

Time to see some real blood-shed.

I don't see how I'm advocating getting ourself involved in some real blood-shed? do you think travelling in a large force along the main road is less safe than taking the less travelled dirt roads?

It is my hope that travelling in a larger force will dissuade possible highwaymen.

way i see it this entire place is falling apart maybe we can use this however. We being the awesome merchant might breath a little life to this place by setting up some trade posts and invest in business here. Our fame will grow and the prince here will be happy because he can charge taxes for his armies again. An if he thinks were intruding then our sis will calm him down with her wit.

I'm taking requests for setting information to place in the OP, information will always be limited to the knowledge Raynor possesses, which shouldn't be terribly restrictive, as he's well educated.
I'll probably update in the late morning tomorrow (about ten or eleven hours from now for me).

I know this is out of the realm of probability but can someone make a map basically saying "you are here in foreign land and must go through xyz and then back into freindly territory".

I may post a map of analysse and surrounding territories if that would help, it's perhaps due, but will take me a bit. I'll put a description of the route ahead in the next update.

Thanks it doesn't have to be mega precise or decoration just bare-bones basic so i can get a visual. Also a tip mal gives is not to worry about miles from location a to b.

We need to discuss the situation with Berick, and Sir Evanson. Since they are both are career military men they should provide some feedback especially Berick since he is born here and participated in some military campaigns.

While we're at it ask him why everyone's so sad.

Also, we should thank Sir Evanson for allowing us to take over command, and sitting with Penrod. Also, apologize for any transgressions we made to him.

+1 but not apolgize for any transgresions. We simply traveled with and caused no damage to him or his troop.

PTW and this is awesome. I think we should look around the area of the digging creatures, with scrying of course. And I think big bro may have been in with necromancy.

"I find Prince Penrod's suggestion agreeable enough, what of you Sir Evanson? You're far more experienced in such matters than me."
Evanson gives the matter a few moments of thought, brow furrowed in concentration. "I suppose the Prince probably knows best how to safely travel in his own lands. Fair enough."
Pleased everyone is in agreement, you discuss details and make preparations to leave. The plan will be to travel along the road for three days, after that point the paved stone gives way to dirt roads, and soon after that the border will be crossed, and your escort will return to Koringberg. It will another week and a half of travel to return to the previously planned route, which should still be safe, and will mostly consist of travel through little used roads, some of which barely qualify as roads, though effort has been made to restore them somewhat before your return. The final leg of the journey will be highly public, full of fanfare along high traffic roads. A public announcement of the engagement has now already been made you are told, so the celebration will in part be for that.

You begin your personal preparations. You have Verack get his men ready for travel, and are pleased to learn that Penrod had your carriage and cart retrieved from where you left it, and that everything is intact.
You have some conversation with Sir Evanson before you leave, telling him you will defer to him in the safe transport of your sister for the remainder of the trip when at all possible. You make it clear to him that you meant no disrespect in occassionally taking charge when it would have been his, but that you needed to show authority and strength during such delicate diplomatic matters; he seems to understand, and you believe you've smoothed his sensibilities.

...

Soon you are on the road, and truth be told you are glad to be on your way out of such grim country. Your escort is not exactly small, and includes a vangaurd of 40 halberdiers and 15 archers, and a reargaurd of 20 light cavalry and a warmage. They arn't quite as well armed and disciplined as the force you spied upon only a short time ago, but you suppose the point is more to dissuade attack than to actually engage in battle. Their captain keeps his distance from your party, he and Sir Evanson exchange a few very brief words, and you hear the captain speak in broken Annalysian.

Travel is rather uneventful for the most part, and you split your time; sometimes riding beside Barick, asking his opinion on military matters and generally attempting to take advantage of his experience in your calculations; and sometimes riding in the carriage with Riltia, conversing with her on how she feels about everything and just enjoying her company.
Barick is a little bit nervous, he explains to you that Koringberg was not always so tense and colorless. The shantytown outside of the city walls are very new, and it's very clear the people have been stretched from some sort of war. To the best of your knowledge Penrod is not officially at war with anyone, and has not been in at least several years.
Riltia is nervous to move to a new country, and to have a husband. She tells you that she's surprised that she likes Penrod, in a certain fashion, but that she is not sure how much she wants to be his wife. Perhaps if he was a little younger she would be much happier at the prospect.

Two days on the road, and travel is as dull as ever. The Vangaurd ensures anyone lingering on the road makes way before you arrive, but all of the soldiers have mostly kept their distance from your party, until the second night arrives, and you recieve poor news.
A fistfight broke out after camp had been made, between a pair of Sir Evanson men and one of the Koringberg soldiers. One of your mercenaries apparently also jumped in to "even the odds." Some minor injuries were had, but nothing too serious.
You are assured by Evanson and the Captain that they will deal with their men, but there is still the issue of what to do with yours. Verack doesn't seem too concerned with the matter.

Evening out the odds in a fistfight? Very honourable indeed. Of the crude kind, sure enough, but still honourable none the less.

Tell him that we understand his reasons, but that you do not want it happening again, lest the relations sour between the different troops.

Anyways, they are mercenaries, the others are soldiers. They ought to take it in stride and let it go soon enough. I doubt any real harm will be done, unless the morale of one party gets to some low, prompting them to lash out at the others. Just make sure our mercs are not taunting the soldiers, or other such senseless behaviour. Else, it is hardly much of a concern.

Or he found the MacGuffin that took down the previous sorcerer dynasty.

Try to force-march a bit through this trip. The faster we get home the lesser chance that the 2 groups will go all out between each other.

Great now our escort has to worry about internal problems...

An did you say warmage? i like the sound of speaking with this warmage to see what practices he can tell us about and maybe a tip or two in the right direction.

Lurker made a good point their i withdraw the above...good catch.

Mages of our own nationality are too tight-lipped to really help us, we also want our knowledge and practice of the magical arts to be somewhat secret. Asking mages of a foreign nation, who serve our brother-in-law, and will report to our brother in law such happenings, about information that they might have to keep in even under torture, sounds like a bad idea. (Seeing as magic is very serious and secret here - not kanon, but a good guess I daresay)

Keep our deck stacked and hidden.

Especially with someone who soon could lay claim to our lands due to kinship.
