So, I am almost completely unfamiliar with the Masterwork mod, and after a couple trial runs with the posted save, I don't think I'll be able to adequately participate. Given the amount of time that I'll have available during the allotted time, as well as my own inexperience with Masterwork's extensive modifications, I've decided to bow out and give my turn up to someone else who will be able to better serve the project.

Finished: Weatherwires, the Last Mountainhome. A tragic mix of Children of Men, City of Ember, and, uh, magma.
Stymied: Correspondence from Syrupurns, a prematurely ended narrative, told through annual updates.
In Progress: Roomcarnage, a fortress clinging to life beneath a haunted glacier.

Wait, we are running Masterwork? *checks back* Huh. I don't have any experience with Masterwork either. That mod seems very complicated. Wouldn't it be more effective to run vanilla so as many as possible can participate?

It seems a good chance to try it out, then.
This is Dwarf Fortress, vanilla or modded, let me remind you that in difficulty times there are no turning backs.unless you crash the game without saving
Also, I promise that if you are very lucky you won't even get raped by gnolls/nymphs/leprechauns coordinated with Buzzards at start just like in my last embark. ;D

Personally, I'm also waiting to see how metropoleis turn out in Stonesense.
Anyway, Meph's going trying to upload a new release soon. We might want to wait before starting the game.
Also, as a tip for larger embark: could having decreasing ground layers help FPS?

Wow, guys.

So I'm hearing two things:
a) Masterwork! Waaaagh! Can't - too complicated!
b) Masterwork! Eh, wait for the next update?

The former has more replies than the latter, but both are valid.
For myself, I'm not uber enough to play in full ascii, so I'd want at least the LNB used.

I propose a poll: (UPDATE: It's up.)
(once you set up a poll, it can be changed but never removed for some strange reason.)

Until this is decided, I will pause my efforts in the current world - Serpentabbey will be built one way or the other.

Also, is everyone OK with the turn order?  I'd be willing to move things around if certain dates are better for people.

Thank you, Lovechild.
Let's give the poll until the 17th to determine the will of the players, then go with whichever option is most popular.

I don't know.  How would that work?

It seems like pathfinding and item storage are the biggest RAM hogs.

Well with less space there's less pathfinding? But in my experience, decreasing the number of cavern layers doesn't result in a thinner world, it just creates more solid z-levels. I have not done any extensive research of this though.

I'd be interested in trying to help out.  This game could go for.. a while.  I can't say I've played much Masterwork, but I don't think I could kill a fortress in one year just because of MDF.

Considering that we'll be building up as well as digging down, we're going to be filling the spaces one way or another.  It may be that we'll hit FPS death only after building up one 16x16 area, but that just means that we'll have to fill up a bunch of 16 x 16 paralel world areas and patchwork them together into one big map.  I'm willing to do it too.

OK, so modifying the LNP to make it so all the races build stuff has edged out the others by 1 vote.  Since none of you have any problems with the turn order, I'll probably start mine tomorrow using the new world.
