Alucard's magic works mainly through Bartimaeus, who can freely phase into the void. There Bartimaeus can charge a magic attack. The magic will siphon void energy and build up until Alucard opens a portal which unleashes the attack. Apart from that, Alucard can also teleport a short distance and can cast portals which suck in objects like a vortex.
