With apologies to PW for hijacking his thread for related purposes.
It's Flimsy (Elephant Parade) vs Meta (Syvarris)!
(That second character, syv, would have trouble, due to potency but no pool)

You stand face to face in a room with cold featureless obsidian walls, polished perfectly smooth. They extend upwards, endlessly into blackness. The floor is polished stone, too, a brilliant white marble. A large endlessly tall pillar of glowing rock sits in the center of the room, between you. It is at least 2 meters wide, probably more. The room is comfortably large enough horizontally that a squad of 8 could bunk in it, but no larger.
You stand at opposite corners, unable to see each other beyond the pillar but able to hear each others breathing.

Flimsy (5/5 pool) - Healthy
Meta (0/0 pool) - Healthy

((You said Potency was rolled against the attacker's potency to determine if you're hurt by a spell, right?  The three pot was just there to prevent somebody one-shotting me with "FireForward Rock"))

He runs right into a wall of force that gives him a nosebleed and stuns him! The wall quickly dissipates, though, and he proceeds to lunge at Flimsy's throat.

Flimsy cannot push Meta away, and his hands squeeze around Flimsy's windpipe, cutting off the flow of air and words!

Flimsy (5/5 pool) - Choking, cannot speak
Meta (0/0 pool) - Stunned, -.5 global aggression, -1 global defense.[/transparent]

Try to punch him in the face.

With a very quick twist, Meta flays the flesh from Flimsy's neck with his bare hands!

Despite missing much of his flesh and bleeding profusely, Flimsy manages to push Meta away before he collapses, screaming and bleeding and paralyzed from the gaping neck wound down.

Flimsy (5/5 pool) - Paralyzed (-2 global combat, immobile), Bleeding out (1 turn to live)
Meta (0/0 pool) - Stunned (-.5 global aggression, -1 global defense)

Also, I cannot find an "all around" word in the word list. Perhaps my copy is outdated, in which case I need to refresh it, but I'm going to interpret that as aura unless you say otherwise.

alright so I've been fucking about, adding more and more descriptions to stuff. We're almost at 40 pages, and this is basically just the freaking list.


Anyways, I was thinking about something; something I wanted to try.


I want people to try and build something. Like a log cabin or zeppelin or something. Try to get it as close to life as they can using nothing but the words on the list and their own labor. Write it out, step by step, what you would do, what words you would use, etc. Don't worry about rolls or anything, I just want to hear the plan for how you would do it.

Before it wasn't really easy. I mean, yeah, catstaffs, but the average player was mostly unable to create anything better than weapons and armor.

Meta decides the safest place, upon hearing the words sliding out of of Flimsy's dying breaths, would be behind the pillar, and possibly upwards in the only remaining direction. He tries to climb up the polished rock walls, though, rather than the glowing pillar in the middle. Flimsy's spell completes quickly, though, and backfires in a big way. The fires that erupt around him completely envelope him, and poor forth. The pillar protects Meta, slightly, as he stands in the strip of floor not scorched by billowing flames of white, yellow, blue, purple, and black. The explosion is completely smokeless, and beings made of fire and flame with glowing eyes can be seen erupting forth with the fires that melt away the very walls of the room. The explosion dies down, and the flaming rocks are left sizzling and cracking, and the flaming demons standing there, all staring at where Flimsy stood. They ignore Meta, and all point at the lump of quivering, charred, and mostly on fire flesh that is Flimsy, who is clearly now evaporating.
The limbs of the fire beings all turn to tentacles of flame, and grab Flimsy. They quickly tear him apart, digit from digit, as Meta stares on in horror. When the deed is done, and nothing remains of Flimsy, the fire beings all disappear, leaving Meta alone in a room of melting stone.
Which on the far side, melts away into a cavern on the far side, offering escape if only Meta could figure out a way across the molten floor.

Winner: Meta!
