Artifacts counting twice?
« on: August 11, 2013, 02:21:38 pm »

why does my artifact mace count twice in the fort's total value? It is counted in the "weapons" category and also in the "held/worn" category.

p.s. haha! first artifact of the fort and my brand new migrant weaponsmith moods within one month of showing up. Grabs the only steel bar I have and crafts an amazing steel mace.

Huh, I'm pretty sure each value counts are separate, since some artifacts can be used in buildings and so on. Each category counts their own and the total counts everything, I believes.

Well, I double-checked with a calculator, you're right. That's pretty interesting, wonder if a bug or an incentive for enemies to attack.

My first thought is while it lists it twice, it isn't valued in twice.  Looks like I was wrong, though.  I have to second it's a bug.

is the mace equipped? if so, it should count both as weapon and as worn/held. that's at least what happens if I craft weapons/armor and have my dwarves equip them.

then it is not a bug as far as I'm concerned. it makes sense that the wealth the liaison reports back to the mountain home should be higher if your dwarves are actually wearing created artifacts. thus the value is counted twice as opposed to once if they are lying around in some stockpile. it works similar with furniture: if you craft a statue and store it in a stockpile, your wealth increases by its value. if you take that statue though and put it in your dining hall, its value is tripled (initial value under furniture + architecture + displayed).

Yeah, I have some suspicion it's probably to encourage invaders to get the tasty tasty wealth with their sharp bits. It does makes some of the stat screen pretty misleading and annoying to figure out.

Pretty interesting I've not noticed it before, myself, I usually keep an eye on wealth of my fortress, huh.
