The orc was guarding a wooden door, likely not locked, given that it has no keyhole. On the orc is nothing but blood and the halberd. While likely more powerful, it's also probably going to be hard to use with finesse or stealth.
Gently opening the door, going into sneak stance, and carefully peaking through, you see an empty room, barring three doors on all sides and an alchemy lab in the center.

Do not do that, the halberd is too useful for blocking doors/checking for traps/grabbing stuff out of our reach

Yes, although you will need to wield it a bit in order to familiarized with it before you know what they are.
