Author Topic: Hypothetically, could you embark over a werebeast/troll/etc lair?  (Read 4522 times)

I just thought of this while looking at a screenshot of a 3000 year old world that has 17 lairs all lined up on the world map.

So, here's the question - let's say I played in adventure mode and located say, a werebeast lair. Could I then embark in fortress mode in that same area, so that my fortress would have a werebeast lair on the same map?

Yes. I embarked on a Roc nest doing just that. But the "locals" will be immune to traps to watch out for that.

I sometimes do this, thinking "I can engineer this into a security solution!" and then about a year in just kill the beast and it's a regular fort from then on. I am bad at following through with plans.

But yes, you can do that. Occasionally you'll accidentally embark on a lair, but it's much simpler to start in adventure mode, spam the Surroundings option when speaking with an NPC, and then retire and start a fort on top of one of the many lairs you learn of in the process.

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

i do remember someone attempting to get dragon eggs/tame dragons by embarking on a site with 2 dragons nests. I heard one person was successful, the other less so.

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

That happened to me. I tried to kill it with a makeshift militia and they were all killed. Re-embarked with a full military outfit and it had bailed.

I havent see it. I have seen one that makes caves visible. Maybe you are thinking about that?

Couldn't you just wall over the beast's lair if it isn't outside in the beginning and continue construction? (Until you get bored and drown the beast or release it into your horrible invader labyrinth, of course.

I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."

Titans hang out at overworld shrines, though, so unless your mason is very quick with the walls, that's not really an option.

Get Legends Viewer and go hunt for fun lairs and whatnot. Filter by character type, find some critter with an impressive kill list, and embark in its back yard. ...then ponder how the fluffy hell a steam titan managed to rack up 200+ kills.

Yeah but only natural caves appear with that.

I remember this. The results were mostly hilarious.
