We'll see how loyal we are once the next update is done and we see if we're dead or not :).

"Might of Chaos - Conquest of Salix"

I can already see it, gent`s, I can see it. :P

Well, on a - somewhat - more serious note. What Alexandria and TopHat suggest sounds about right. Or rather, pretty much all we can do at the moment, no? So, It get`s a +1 from me.

Imperial Might - Defense of Salix

As the remainder of your forces gather in the trenches for the final defense you step up onto the edge of the trench, ignoring the danger, and speak to those gathered around and those listening to the vox,

"Men of the Volgar 3rd, remember your home, a place of a noble people who strove to serve the God Emperor and preserve the great world he bestowed upon our ancestors long ago. Remember it for today we shall show them the worth of our people, no matter the cost we will hold this line, to the last man we will go down fighting and bring them with us!

Today the Volgar 3rd shall make its first victory of many, till death we serve the God Emperor, and till death we will do our duty and stand our posts despite what faces us here today and what damage has been wrought. Stand for Volgar, for the Imperium, for the God Emperor and we shall not fail!"

You hear a ragged cheer pick up from whats left of the Third and notice Kalman grinning nearby, when he notices your eyes upon him he gives you a nod of approval and sweeps off down the line on some errand or another. It doesn't take long for the enemy to reorganize amidst the trenches, and as the barrage from your artillery lands about it the forces of Chaos begin their final charge across the open ground screaming in a guttural and disgusting language you can barely recognize as a form of low gothic with the massive hulks of World Eaters charging in front of the line. Missiles and autocannon fire scythe down from the redoubts tearing into the flanks of the charging tide, but the World Eaters are too quick, they charge towards the trench weaving through lasfire, missiles, and stub fire alike letting loose feral howls as they approach.

The massed horde behind the World Eaters falls in droves but maintains a steady wall of return fire as the pelt for the trench line, no matter how frantically your men fire into the enemy forces they continue to gain ground. You do not get to see the rest of the charge however as the three World Eaters crash down into the trench line you and a number of other men man, you watch as the center one tears into the Stormtroopers with his bear hands but are soon interrupted as another Chaos Marine charges you. You hastily drop your lasgun and barely get your sword out in time to parry the incoming chainaxe, knocking it aside just enough that it misses your face but your success is short lived as you feel the axe bite and tear into your shoulder.

Your left arm goes limp as you lash out with the dull grey blade of your sword and catch the beast square in the visor cutting a deep gouge down the side that black ichor commences to seep out of. Before the World Eater has a chance to attack you again the remainder of your personal guard appear at your side and furiously slash at the monster trying to pull a chainaxe from your shoulder, the swords cut deeply into the power armor but none manage to penetrate all the way through. Fighting through the pain you pull your sword back with your good arm and slam the blade through the gap in the World Eater's helmet and straight through its head. The beast convulses and collapses to the ground tearing the chainaxe from your shoulder in the process, as the weapon tears free of your arm you feel a massive wave of pain go through you and instantly pass out ...

First battle won!

Since you've won your first battle Colonel Mordecai gains a trait, these traits are based on the actions of Mordecai during the battle and upon completing a battle a number of said traits are generated (in this case three) for you (the players) to choose from. The one that has the most votes when I update next gets added to the Colonel.

Trait One, Inspiring Presence: Your actions in the defense of Salix Major were brave, and outstanding as twice you stood your ground and fought World Eater Marines. Your men, and many who hear of this tale, are awed by it and in your presence they always seem to stand taller as if proud and touched by your very presence near them. It will come to be said that you have a type of way about you, in battle those who fight near or by your side are inspired by your mere presence to commit greater acts in honor of you, and the God Emperor.

Trait Two, Swordmaster: Your skills shined through in your fights with the dreaded World Eaters, your sheer prowess with a sword is evident to every man that has seen you use one. You could best the greatest of Imperial swordsman, and even fight on par with the twisted and enhanced Chaos Space Marines which you have proven in your career. In a melee fight, so long as you have your sword, the enemy will find it hard to beat a man of your skill.

Trait Three, Born Commander: Your command of the Volgar 3rd on Salix proved a hidden aptitude you contained for the command of such large forces, and the performance of your men show it. Your orders ensure that work is done effectively and methodically, the men take to your commands quickly and go above and beyond in order to prove themselves to you. In a warzone such skills could be useful in effectively and quickly established defenses, facilities, and positions that would be vital to your efforts.

I vote swordmaster.
If we're to continue leading from the front it would help if we could avoid losing limbs....

So what happens after this? Will the 18 squads of wounded survive to put the experience they've gained to use not getting killed in the next mission?

After this will be the aftermath of the Defense of Salix, the wound you suffered in the battle will have you in a hospital for a while so it'll be a short amount of time that happens (most likely a month or so in game) between then and now.

Nice, do we get a replacement limb? Thats time for the 18 wounded squads to recover as well, do we get any choice in our reinforcements or is it random?

1) You may get a replacement limb, it depends on your rolls (which will tell whether the arm can be salvaged and such).
2) Random this time, decided by me, a few dice rolls, and story.

(( I'm hoping we fail the salvage roll so we can get a better mechanical one.
Darn, ahh well I'm guessing that we get a roll modifier for the victory? ))

Haven't decided yet, but very likely yes.

(( Ahhh well then, have to wait and hope that the dice gods agree that Ogryn are awesome in sieges, and that we deserve more flak armor, hotshots and veterans. Or at least to get rid of that leather.

Can you tell us what was with those commissar by the way? They've been acting really weird. ))

Kalman was just showing approval of your actions, and Malkom, well you only ever really met with him at the first trench line so I don't know what you see as strange.

Not really. I just thought his blushing came from the interest his superior showed to someone who actally would be below him in rank.

Else, While "Inspiring Presence" would sound the most fitting in my book, "Swordmaster" has the most practicall appeal for us. I would think we will have more than one opportunity to show our prowess on the field, and thus gain the Presence another time.
