((We're made out of bones, we're just coated in ice. Anyway, we won't be moving, we'll just maintain a holding pattern so the "cloud" won't move.))

They're sky-mariners, boyanced upon the air currents; paying attention to the clouds is what they do.
They'd pay attention to a dragon, regardless of if it's made of ice or no.

-Couple that with the fact we're made of magic ice, and I'd say if we keep pretty high above them we'll be harder to see without our mist.
Aheheh. Ignoring how very little ice is like that, we've got bones in the middle. And have you never heard of camoflage?

Quote
And darn, I was hoping you'd argue about the relative suspiciousness of stalker-clouds vs stalker-dragons.
Well, it's not that I think stalker clouds are inconspicuous, it's that they're pretty mundane compared to dragons.

Besides, clouds move all the time. They're not mountains. We might be a little out of the ordinary, but if we don't do anything stupidly obvious or obviously stupid it'll work better than being a dragon, made of ice, with bones in the middle which may or may not be visible.

((We don't have to use stealth, we're pursuing the option right now, if it doesn't work, we could always use other options. For starters, we could create a flying humanoid golem, make it fly down to the humans and then use telepathic-ventriloquy to introduce ourselves.))

Assuming they spot us- meanwhile, they will spot the cloud, and it won't take them long to notice it's not normal. Staying as bones & ice diminishes our profile. Magic ice is magic! Cam-of-lag-e? What is that, some sort of french vid'ya maker?
-Playing the stalker-cloud would be no less obvious to them than snake's box routine.

OKAY, guys, howabout we don't even bother with them unless they're coming straight at us?

((As I have stated, we shall not follow them. Additionally stealth is preferred, not mandatory. Even if they spot the odd cloud, we can send out a golem representative and communicate via telepathic ventriloquy so that they don't get frightened by the sight of an ice encrusted skeletal dragon.))

1. Ice isn't air. It's visible. Even if not, bones are still visible.
2. Dragons are always a call for immediate attention, especially strange ones, especially undead-looking ones. Clouds are not nearly so alarming, unless we do something stupidly obvious or obviously stupid.
3. Sorry if this sounds patronizing or something, but: Clouds look like clouds. Therefore, a cloud-colored cloud would be harder to spot against a cloud than

Um...they are.

Works better than showing them a big icy skeletal dragon.

Why don't we just go straight up to them? They can't hurt us. If they fire on us we could just leave, or destroy them and warn the town nearby that their airship was taken over by pirates and we avenged them, sadly having to destroy the ship as collateral damage. If they want compensation, we have gold. (Just don't tell them where from)

((My reason for stealth is because I want to summon a flying golem and communicate to the humans via telepathic-ventriloquy, I'm not sure about the motivation of the other people though.))

I'd like to get an idea of what they are and why they might be here before attacking them.

Ice isn't air. It's visible. Even if not, bones are still visible.

As an aeriel hunter, it's probable that we have much, much better vision than ground creatures. We can probably simply be far enough away that the blue/white tones of ice and bone blend in with the blue sky.

Plus, it's a zeppelin. There's a massive balloon above the passenger compartment. Big blind spot.

We don't know that. We don't yet know what sort of world we're in. For example, it's possible that hundreds or thousands of years of technological growth may have happened since we were entombed. That might be a steampunk airship with cannons.

Skeletal dragon flying straight up to your delicate balloon comes across as an aggressive action. I'd be ok with sitting at the entry way and waiting for them to either come to us or fly by...but I still say telepathic observation.

Replace "blue/white," "ice and bones," and "blue sky" with "gray," "fog," and "gray clouds," and both of those apply just as well for becoming a cloud.

Which is why we shouldn't show them something like a dragon, which would be worth shooting at first and asking questions never. Weird cloud? Not much point shooting at, if it's worth worrying about at all.

You miss the point: why be close enough that we need to worry about cloud or no cloud at all?

Use telepathy

On the other hand, why bother not being a cloud if being a cloud is better?
