Satellite Reign
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:43:22 am »

I'm sick of backing Kickstarters as I already have a queue of games I am waiting to be made.

But this one, if it is struggling to reach it's goal, will get my support.

Satellite Reign.

From a very qualified team. I'm excited. But not excited enough to just add a game to my queue of unmade games. But if you still like to kickstart, then check this out.

"Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game. You control a team of four agents, each with distinct and unique abilities, collectively battling for control of a fully simulated, living cyberpunk city.

The game world is designed to facilitate emergent gameplay, giving you the tools and freedom to play how you want to play, so you can create strategies and scenarios that not even we had anticipated!

Customise your team with the strength to destroy your enemies head-on, or hack into their facilities to manipulate their infrastructure without them ever knowing you were even there.

Will you take down your enemies with brute-force? Covert espionage and infiltration? Or will you use propaganda to influence the citizens of the city and overthrow the controlling powers?"

I backed at the level that gives alpha access because I really want to voice my opinion on this one and try to guide it along the lines that made the original great. I hope they really do incorporate feedback.

Thanks for this, I'm in the same boat too - have backed several projects since last year but not got anything yet, hehe.  Anyway, a modern version of Syndicate will be definitely worth waiting for.

Seconded!  There is no mention of a recreation of Syndicate anywhere!  That would have had me clicking on the pledge button about 3 minutes earlier 8)

Yay, someone posted a Kickstarter so I didn't have to! :P

On first blush, the idea seems good. I'm a little disappointed you're part of a "mysterious group" trying to "take down the corporations." The dystopian angle really grew from the fact you were part of the system, working for an evil corp and doing its bidding. That angle is still preserved in being able to manipulate civilians and stuff but....I guess I'll have to wait to see more.

The rewards schema seems a little steep to me too. On the one hand, it doesn't game with many if any in-game perks. I like that. On the other, I feel like you have to pledge $50 to get anything meaningful out of it. I'll probably go in at the $30ish level, because I loves me some soundtracks.

Also pilgrimboy, you should embed the Kicktraq link for the game in the 1st post.

YOu know, this sounds awesome. But I'm rather not able to support it in a tier that would be worth it to me, so I'll just sit here and hope it goes forward well unless I actually have the money to do so before august.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Didn't notice the "mysterious group" thing, but they said "To free the masses from the corporate stranglehold, or to take control for themselves?" so you got both sides of the coin.

I love their description of how the city will be simulated, a-la introversion's "subversion", if they pull it right, this could be great.

It's way too early for me to give any credence to what they said about that. Every developer doing any kind of city simulation makes the same claim.

Setting it up isn't a big issue, so long as it isn't procedurely generated.  Have an intriquite, planned out city, then write in all the action code around it.  So long as it doesn't get too complex, it wouldn't be impossible to make it realistic and -FUN-, in the DF sense.  The problems come when you try to do a lot of stuff with it and it gets too bulky.

I have high hopes for Satellite Reign, though.  With Shadowrun Returns coming out next month, it seems to be a really good time for games like this.  8)

I asked him how far into development they are and he responded that it's further along than Syndicate Wars was after a year. Not a very concrete answer, but an answer nonetheless.

Hey, as long as they're all good Kickstarters, I'm alright with it.
