Use shell to cover self for armor
Become huge

Soooooo... exactly what I suggested?
Yes, but in a format for non-Fowl fans.
EDIT: Also, a few turns down liquid/gaseous rocket engines could become feasible for traversing the globe.

Well, let's say you're going away from Earth on huge spaceship and suddenly shit goes wrong and you have Super Mutants. Social Experiments prepared them for this.

Note: Most organisms are very intolerant to massive temperature changes around their bodies.

Also, massive organism in water creates a lot of drag. Doubt we could move fast without suffer from massive skeleton failures. (Especially considering we don't have one).

Well the Artemis Fowl krakens are basically several-mile-long armored shells. How else would we move efficiently? Also, if the chamber were made of calcifed rock, and sme distance away form the living part, it could be possible.

Just saying don't expect a several kilometer long beast to move any faster than 3 km/h.
And shaping a part of the shell in a specific way while being quite some distance away from it is hard. Especially when it fractures. (Calcified rock isn't that strong).

Alternative ways to move is to just use massive, slow tentacles. Easier to steer, and more energy efficient.

Movement +1. Specifically using a writhing motion.
Sevenfold radial symmetry. Develop a gilltube to supply oxygen.

Flying several thousand feet into the sky is cooler.

Sadly, you'll be flying several thousand feets in every direction. At once.

((Because really, the amount energy required to move that mass is enormous.))

Maybe at first, but Rule Of Cool guarantees we'd get what we want, because rockets are the coolest method of movement.

Wrong, sir! There are much  cooler methods of movement than rockets.

The ability to teleport at will, the ability to move through time as though it were a dimension of space, the ability to move between dimensions at will, the ability to move one's consciousness independent of the body, the ability to bend space around oneself, and the ability to harness nuclear forces to "climb" through the air with no regard to gravity. There's six for you.

I can't remember what it was for, but once I made up a race of enormous creatures that manipulated gravity and time to move around... eh, fuck it. Let's just make ourself into a living rocket.

Develop the ability to shape the rock deposits we leave to make it easier to catch food.

Develop a sac on where we can take water and then let it off at big pressures to move, similar to squids.
