Personal log of Dr. Zuglar "House" Cobaltdots
--Obsidian 30, 1052--
What

The

Hell?

I came here in the Autumn, just a few months ago, and have to say, someone here is drunk, stupid, or both. The latter is probably most likely, since it seems to be the norm for dwarves.

Among the problems I noticed when I first came here:

1. The Depot is completely inaccessible to wagons. I, for one, need supplies for the hospital I have been requesting for three months, now! How the hell am I supposed to get supplies when there is no route for the wagons to arrive?

2. The entrance by which the Depot is accessed is completely vulnerable to attack. For some reason, the door to this hole in the ground is only feet from where our scouts can no longer see. When I have time, I shall have to investigate this abnormality, as it makes no sense that they should not see their own front porch.

3. The traffic of the entire fort is traveling along one single staircase, which is only 1 square meter. I was once run over by that portly chef as he was lugging a barrel of whiskey past me!

4. There is a complete lack of necessary rooms, such as dining rooms, my hospital, and a barracks in which to train a military. I, for one, need a hospital, because with the utter lack of sense these brainless morons exhibit, I'll be plenty busy setting bones, splinting body parts, and sewing together our bunch of useless skinsacks, as they whine about the lack of water.

I would go on, but the list is too long, and I need to go find out when I'm going to get my hospital, if ever!

--Granite 1, 1053--
The new overseer, a person by the name of Dewboy (strange names they come up with), ran into my room, babbling about goblin invasions, dead dwarves, and the fall of Boltrinse. He then promptly collapsed on my floor, telling me to take his place, for he could not do the job, for Armok must have sent him that vision. Armok, my ass. I have a feeling that the blood sample I helped myself to will reveal traces of spotted helmet, a powerful hallucinogen, which looks very much like our plump helmets, if, of course, you ignore the giant spots on it, which is easy to do when drunk off your ass.

Well, it looks like time to get started on this job. Now I will finally have that hospital I have always dreamed of.

--Slate 3, 1052--

Well, I finally got my hospital dug out, though I am missing several key components, such as a surgical table and some traction benches.

I have also dug out a new location for the Depot, mandated its construction, and closed off the old entrance gates. Someone can reopen them by way of the old levers, if they wish.

I have also finished work on the new finished goods stockpile, so that nobody has to walk to BFE and back for the trade goods. The stone crafting workshop has been tasked with round-the-clock craft production, so that we don't have to trade things that are actually valuable for supplies.

a random planter decided to take the time between my ordering the gates closed and the actual obedience to this order as an opportunity to enjoy his meal on the gates. He has survived, but I shall have to work some interesting magic to repair his nerves, fractures, and smashed bones. The moron will probably never walk again.

I have set all of my doctors to do nothing but practicing healthcare, as we have no use of a cheesemaker in this fortress, right now. I'm going to have a kitchen set up near the brewery so that there will be no more spotted helmet accidents, as happened with dewboy.

I just received notice that the supply of bituminous coal has run out, but we still have lignite in the processing plant.

our forge has been tasked with creation of iron weaponry and armor, because we have over 100 bars of iron sitting around. once I have enough armor for 10 men, and 2 of every weapon type, I will figure out something to do with the remainder.

Miners will now be sent to perform exploratory mining to find more ores and smeltable materials while I try to save the planter's life.

--later that day--

The exploratory mining cracked open an expansive cavern with the first swing of a pick.

A vile force of darkness arrived just as the elves got into the depot. I'm recalling all citizens into the burrows and starting phase two tomorrow. It has been a pleasure serving so far. will be back on tomorrow with the report of the battle.

A long, long time ago (about a week), we thought it would be fun to start up a succession game over Facebook.  Unfortunately, neither of us are Facebook-popular enough to attract many people to the game and Facebook has rather poor tools for multiple screenshots and medium-length descriptive posts.  So we'd like to invite you to manage the fort of Boltrinse for a year, the land where chalk coats everything and a hill is held up by a single support!

I know everyone reading this is probably familiar with succession games, but here is the rules written in the original post:
Quote
You play a full year. When you see the bright green "Spring has Arrived!" text, save the game, zip the save folder, upload it somewhere (Google drive works), and send the link to the next person down the line. If you can't play your turn, please let us know so we can send it to the next person down the line. If you don't finish your turn after a week or so of waiting, we'll pass the game down to the next person in line, but we're willing to wait since real life is an event that happens. I'll be starting the Dwarf Fortress in a reasonably decent area; if all goes well fun, it will be the only reasonable thing about the fortress. We'll allow people to sign up for multiple turns, they just have to sign up for one turn at a time. When you play, we'd like screenshots of the game along with a description of what happened; we'd like to know how horribly you've mismanaged the fort in our absence.

The current list is as follows: (Green is turn already taken, Orange is the current turn, and Red is turn not taken yet)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've already completed my turn here and will post up screenshots shortly.  Good luck!
Sounds interesting. I haven't logged in in a while but I want to try my first Succession game  :D
Is there anything special I should know about Succession other than the rules I've just now read and what I already know of my job for my year? Thanks!

Sounds good. Now to plan out how my unfortunate demise will go in my head.

I didn't get anything done today, so will have to see what happens tomorrow.

I shall dorf you on then. But be warned that you might die to the vile force of darkness on our doorstep.

The new journal of Dewboy, Head of D.E.B.T

Entry one:

The new overseer thinks I'm crazy. I probably would've thought that too if a dwarf just walked in and started yelling about the end of what seems like a safe fortress. Now they all see i'm right. Sculley LISTENED to me and so we were saved from oblivion, for now.

I've requested to head up our new military. I failed this place once, but I will atone for my failures.

LONG LIVE BOLTRINSE

Hey scullywr, are you still working on the fort?  If not, we'll have to move it on to the next person.

I'm guessing that if Mouseshy doesn't reply within two days it will be my turn.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Well sculleywr's turn started on June the 23rd so it was meant to end on the 1st of July this means that your turn is meant to end tomorrow. Personally I'd be willing to give you an extension on your turn but we will have to see what shatterspike says.
