Humans trying to wipe out dwarves in world gen
« on: June 16, 2013, 10:56:06 am »

As the title says, for some reason humans are butting heads with the dwarves and trying to wipe them out. I did this three times and and they keep trying to wipe them of the map. Is there a reason for this and how do I keep the dwarves strong enough to survive the assaults?

My prime suspect would be civ number and site cap - as i understand it, your world should allow about three times as many civilisation members as a standard 'large' world. In such a crowded place, i'd _expect_ clashes between practically all available sides when they're allowed to interact for three hundred years.

Well that could explain the short life expectancy of dwarf kings apparently. I guess I will have to lower the site and civ abit. but sucks that I can do my 8 kingdom rp.

There's a setting in the entity files that you can tweak... I forget the tag, but it basically affects the maximum number of distinct civilizations that the particular race may spawn during worldgen.

*Quick wiki check*

Here it is. [MAX_STARTING_CIV_NUMBER]. If you set that to a certain number, that will be the cap on civ instances. So if you give the humans [MAX_STARTING_CIV_NUMBER:4] and keep the dwarves at whatever the default is, or just jack it up to 100, then you won't have problems with the humans wiping out the dwarves. The way it works is that when worldgen is creating the starting entities, it will put all the entity types in a list, generate a civilization of the first entity type (dwarves, for instance), then put them at the back of the list and go to the next one. If the number of already existing civilizations for that type equals the MAX_STARTING_CIV_NUMBER, then it'll just skip over them. It stops once the total number of civs has been reached, so you won't get 10000 dwarven civilizations if you set their number to 10000, it'll be capped by the number you define in worldgen parameters.
