Training and Exotic Creatures
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:38:37 pm »

I captured a named Cave Dragon from a Goblin siege. Is it possible to train him? How would I go about doing so? Is it worth it? I also have around another 5 cave dragons with him.

Training caged animals from sieges is currently bugged. Even when tamed they stay hostile to your dwarves

But and this is one big but, The cave dragons babies are trainable in the art of WAR!

Just be careful, Flame doesn't discriminate and if a dragon burns down your fort when trying to cook its lunch...well yeah.

Debatable.  Knowing general overseer luck, they'll team up.

Cave dragons are valuable anyways, keep it as a pet!  Put it in a cage, put the cage in the dining hall, the creature's value adds to the cage's value, and thus to the room value.

Invaders will fight uninvited guests.

  • Cave dragons don't have a [CHILD] tag.
  • Cave dragons are egg layers, so even if they did have a [CHILD] tag, hostile CDs won't breed on your map.
  • Can dwarves even train [EVIL] creatures?

As long as they have the [TRAINABLE(_WAR/_HUNTING)] tags(which cave dragons do), yes. The [GOOD]/[EVIL] tags merely restrict its biome to good/evil respectively(this restriction is ignored for subterranean biomes).
