A little weapon skill will help too. Not much though.

Edit: Fun fact- once you are a Sniper, you will never suffer weight penalties from any crossbow in the book.

Yeah. Which will mean spamming  20+damage crossbow bolts with high crit rate without losing SPD. Best part of it all, with that high growth on DEF, he will become some kind of knight, and as crossbow can counter in 1-1 range.. this will be quite fun. But.. for now, slow crossbowman woo!
