Fun when you are the one dealing the damage, not so much when it's an LOS AOE fireball that ragdolls, and has no cooldown whatsoever, and thus can be chained forever (or more accurately until you die.)

Knockdown effects are asymmetrical, since it's typically one or few protagonists against many enemies.  It also ruins 1-1 matches (such as bosses) since humans are naturally more adaptable/tactically.

So the typical implementation of "Only the player can use it, but it doesn't work [or barely effects] bosses" is pretty good.
Being stunlocked by an enemy is rarely good, as it's basically "haha don't let that happen when you reincarnate".  Which is poor gameplay.

That sounds broken. What game?

This particular case was Skyrim, specifically, one of the dragon priests (Krosis, I think, didn't have much time to check) had a staff that launched said fireball with the decent sized AOE and the extreme ragdoll.  It might have been manageable in a crypt with walls and other cover, but this was at a word wall, outside, on a mountain.

Skyrim? Outside you can literally counter that by dancing*, as long as you don't do it in front of something the fireball could hit.

Or run right up to him and stab him to death, if you can - he shouldn't fireball you because he would hit himself. This is how I dealt with the hagraven witches iirc.

Heavy armor user.  High mobility against AOE with RAGDOLL is not an option in full Ebony.  It should also be stated that I had reduced him to a sliver of health when he started blasting me with the staff, and then he never let up for a moment until he knocked me off the cliff and I died.

Wait, why are you using heavy armor? You can reach the armor cap with elven with only mediocre smithing and some enchanted smithing-boosting gear. (You can even reach the armor cap with leather armor, actually)

Is there even a single reason to use heavy armor?

(That could be a peeve: When you have what appears to be a choice, but isn't, because one of the choices is superior in every way)

Because I like heavy armor, and I don't do things just because they're 'optimal.'  I play games to enjoy myself, not to minmax for 'perfect' anything.  I know how to build a flawless stealth archer assassin, but I'd rather play a face-tanking heavy weapons juggernaut.  Hell, I could handle the damage from the attack, it was the ragdoll that kept screwing me up (and eventually threw me off the cliff.)

The number of games I can think of that justified it in a gameplay fashion are quite few...

I mean there is Freedom Force but that is because a spammable high damage knock back attack isn't nessisarily a one hit win against you and usually enemies with that are solo-artists (The T-Rex man... will KILL YOU if it catches you)

Fair enough. Does it still ragdoll you if you're blocking with your shield when it hits? (I don't actually know the answer; it works against giants, but this is magic so it might not GAF)

True blocks tend to 100% negate attacks in both Freedom Forces... and there are things that can reduce both the damage and knockback (or make you ridiculously light so it launches you into space... which can often do more damage then the attack itself)

Tip: Skip the original Freedom Force... the sequel smoothed over so many gameplay elements and improved the game so much it makes the original nearly untouchable.

I'm not taking the hits directly (and I don't have a shield) the ragdoll appears to be caused on impact with any surface (including me obviously.)  I got sick of being thrown around and having a full minute of animations and console killed him tho', so it's over for now.

Well, it's a singleplayer game, so if console killing him is what makes you happiest, who am I to judge? (That said, I'd probably have tried the Disarm shout first, but if he's high enough level it probably wouldn't have worked anyways. Assuming you even have it! In my last game of Skyrim I was playing without shouts entirely.)

O_o that guy. I killded him very easily by knocking him off the cliff then pumping him with arrows. Because of elevation and fireball's low speed it is easy to dodge. Watch out for any followers you have though. Did you try before or after the main quest line? I wonder if the summonable dragon is any good against him. The staff is kick-ass when you have it.

One thing I never found out, do staves run out of charge when used by an enemy?

While wielded by an enemy, nothing runs out.  Not staves, not enchantments, not bolts, not arrows, nothing.

Shadowlord: I have exactly two single words, 'fus' and the first part of flame breath, using the console doesn't make me happy, but every time I nearly brought him down he started spamming the fireball staff at close quarters, so instead of burning even more of my life on slamming my head against a wall, I used the power of dev to end him.  Of course all of this has to be taken with the fact that the character I'm using currently is level 74, and has gotten there just messing around near Whiterun (companion quests etc.), this also means that the dragon priest spawned in at around level ninety, he's rather more powerful than average.
