Monarch arrival message but no monarch.
« on: May 24, 2013, 03:05:09 pm »

Got the message that my fortress is now a mountain home. Got the mix of soldier dwarves, but no monarch himself. There was, however, a pile of clothes and armor at the map edge entry point. Does this mean the monarch died on arrival as I've heard about before? There was no message of death nor any body to bury. Shame too, I have some sweet digs all layed out for him too.

Is he listed on the "dead" section of the unit list?

If so, you could probably use DFHack to bring him back, if so inclined.

I'll have to check, thanks for the suggestion. Think I briefly considered that but didn't want to go through 1000 units of undead yak hair and what not.

"Where's his majesty?"
"Under the rotten yak hair pile"
"why is h-"
"Don't ask. You don't want to know."

I've had migrants drop dead on arrival due to old age. Apparently the game runs a 'old age death' check when something first arrives on the active map.

You can use fix/dead-units to clean out all the yak hair from the Deceased list. That command gets rid of pretty much everything but your dwarves.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Is it a df-hack command or built in the game?
How to do it?

That'd be DFHack.  Try typing "fix/dead-units" on the DFHack console.

i had the same problem with my current fort. turns out, that after a half-century of war and lost battles, the dwarves decided to no longer have a king/queen (they were always slaughtered by goblin in the irst year of their reign). so now i guess my mayor is the highest dwaf in my civilisation...

you could also check legends mode. maybe you never had a monarch..
