A cool feature that is probably technically a bug

Make one of the steam powered armors, then melt it down giving a bar of the special metal. Can't normally use it to make stuff, but if you get a mood can use it to make any worn/wielded item that will give one of max strength/agility/endurance.

Having an issue where my Dwarves wont tan pond turtle shells. Anyone know why that might be happening? They seem to be fine with anything else.

This is kind of weird, but I had my "Harder Learning" going, as I like the guild idea and about Autumn of the first year, I get a decent sized migration wave with one guy being in the Masons guild,
and all the sudden I look at Dwarf Therapist and the (-50%) learn rate is GONE for all my dorfs. I hadn't reloaded, changed the settings or anything. It just plain made all my dwarfs normal learn rate for some reason.

I'm not sure at what exact moment it happened, but I really think it was just about when that Mason's guild dwarf came in.

Anyone else experience this?

EDIT :  Very strange, but I did a "die" in DFHack, restarted the game and it was back to -50%'s across the board for my dwarves. Wish
I could recreate the issue. Maybe it was just a fluke and won't happen again. I'll keep an eye out for it.

i'm having the same problem with crayfish shells
maybe they got broken, when tanning was changed to leather-yield depending on size?

Do the shells still work at the craftdwarf?
Are they stockpiled as shell body parts (refuse) or as globs (food)?
post a save if you have one?

I succesfully tested tanning shells on butchered cave/pond turtles/tortoises that I bought at embark. Maybe crayfish shells are too small?

I dont have any raws here so I cant check anything.

The speech file battlecry_dwarf_antman has several typos in it! Reading through them all now. I may edit this further :)

Edit: Nevermind. I just realised I missed an update from a few days ago that fixed this.

I've seen the same thing - I don't know if it is DT somehow "forgetting" about the penalty, or the penalty actually disappearing ingame.  Should be easy enough to test.

the crayfish shells are stored as refuse and not accepted by the craftsdwarf - however, it does use turtleshells
thats not a big problem though

but i noticed another thing: my slagpit doesn't work
the slag just stays in the workshop without ever being used up :?
the raws seem normal to me...

in the save there is currently no slagpit, but the building-materials should be available(hotkey F2 for smelters):

(hope the link works)

edit: i'm using a self-assembled linux-V3a

I haven't tried using them at the craftsdwarf, but they are stockpiled as refuse (Fresh Raw Hide), and just sit there. I only have one dwarf fishing now, and set a fishing zone that doesn't seem to have any turtles so they stopped overflowing, but they are still just sitting there.

@leafar
In the slag pit reactions I see the following:
REACTION:DESTROY_SLAG]
[NAME:Throw slag in the slagpit]
[BUILDING:SLAG_PIT:CUSTOM_T]
[REAGENT:A:1:NONE:NONE:NONE:NONE][REACTION_CLASS:SLAG] [DOES_NOT_DETERMINE_PRODUCT_AMOUNT]
[SKILL:SMELT]

The reactions only take a slag quantity of 1, while each bar should have a quantity of 150. So it should take 150 such reactions to use up the slag bar. To correct this you need to open the reaction_masterwork.txt file and multiply the quantities of all the slag items (everything followed by the [REACTION_CLASS:SLAG] tag) by 150.

This is entirely wrong, and if you do it you will break the reaction.

It accepts 1 of any slag item, which is needed since the massive slag bars are actually tools, I did this to increase their weight and size over the maximum a bar allows. The 1 reagent works on bars as well, doesnt matter that its not 150 because it has does not determine product amount. The reaction works fine, it must be something else on your end, probably burrows.

I tried the fixed reaction and it works. If you leave the reaction as it is he will keep using the same bar over and over again, but if you fix the raws as I suggested he uses one bar for the reaction and uses a new bar for the next reaction.

Edit: I tested it again and it is exactly like I said. Leaving the value at 1 means the bar keeps getting reused, changing it to 150 means that one bar per reaction gets used up, changing it to 300 means it takes 2 bars for each reaction.

You might want to make two separate sets of reactions for slag bars and tools, otherwise I guess your change to 150 will cause oddness with the Massive Slag.

I was *not* able to replicate what you say, though, Jellsprout.  I just ran the reaction and it worked as Meph said, one bar (150 units) turns into 2 blocks, with the original reaction.

Spoiler: slag test (click to show/hide)
