The whole mess with Cersei and the clergy comes in what book again?

I can recall the crap being interesting and amusing to watch but I can't remember how long after the second wedding it happens?

Fifth book?

I'm not up to par on this, but Lord Frey is played by Wallace Shawn, right?

Anything else would be inconceivable.

Nope, David Bradley.
He also played the creepy caretaker, Filch, in the harry potter films.

Oh god yes. He was PERFECT. My family were staring at the tv the whole time he was being 'creepy old pervert' and I couldn't stop laughing at their expressions.

So I did some ‼SCIENCE‼ (because I can and why not? :P):
Assuming
  • The last summer lasted 16 years
  • Each season is equally long so 64 earth years for one GoT year
  • The planet (if the world is a planet) has a circular or close-to-circular orbit
  • The sun is as luminous on GoT planet as the sun is on earth (flux density at planet = solar constant)

Then
  • The planet orbits a class B main sequence star at an orbital distance of 20.1 AU
  • The star has a mass of 2 solar masses and a radius of 5.5 solar radii
  • The star has a surface temperature of 11000 K and outputs 1.6*1029 W black-body radiation

The alternative would be the planet's tilt changing relatively rapidly every year compared to Earth.

Extensive quizzing of the author has categorically confirmed that there is no scientific reason behind the variable seasons, and that there is a magical reason for it. Source: Hundreds circa 2006-2007 when I was taken with the idea that the Westeros boards were a decent use of my time.

Season length is highly variable, so it can't be just the planet's current position in it's solar system. Though I guess a binary system could produce a seemingly random pattern.

Yea! And metal rings with various house icons orbit the sun, and every hour or so any significant landmark where something interesting is happening has to quickly fold up and then take turns setting itself up again to really cool music.

Did I mention I love the GoT intro?
