Have Squishy push the bug into the bottomless pit.

Nah. If we must kill it, we should make Squishy a shield and just stab it with our sword. Might as well have a corpse to loot for venom glands, exoskeleton armor, and the like.

Cast a spell of insect communication, and inquire as to the insect's whimsical coloring. If it does not respond intelligably, push it into the pit.

+1

We should have looked through a portal to the Ranch Dressing plane to see if we could find any elven wizards.

OMG. That bug is adorable. Don't kill it. Distract it by conjuring up some food and follow the path Southeast. The tracking spell
Cast a spell of insect communication, and inquire as to the insect's whimsical coloring. If it does not respond intelligably, push it into the pit.

You CONJURE a SANDWICH to placate the chitinous beast.

You then cast SPEAK WITH MONSTER, allowing you to communicate.

You enquire as to the purpose of the insect's BRIGHT COLORATION.
It replies with a series of soft clicking sounds. The spell translates this as a squeaky, female voice, which states that the BRIGHT COLORATION's purpose is to attract POTENTIAL MATES.

The insect seems non-hostile, so you leave it and follow the trail.

There is another LARGE INSECT(?) in this room. You have a feeling that this one will not be placated by a sandwich.

Alright, no sandwich.

Summon a giant hot dog to placate it. A hot dog made of insects. Giant insects. Maybe giant centipedes would be better? Giant bugs, although not as giant as the spider.

Discern purpose of the two dresser drawers in front of the insect. One appears to be filled with kitty litter? At any rate, cast spell of communication in order to facilitate this.

Cast a spell to make you immune to webs and spider venom, then try everyones' ideas of talking to it.

This is good, but we need to keep an eye on our magical reserves. Can we get a status update on that?

Yeah. Lets just save magic reserves, turn squishee into a shield or something to restrain it's fangs, and go ham with our sword.

Summon a giant hot dog to placate it. A hot dog made of insects. Giant insects. Maybe giant centipedes would be better? Giant bugs, although not as giant as the spider.

You SUMMON a GIANT CENTIPEDE.

The INSECT(?) doesn't seem to notice.

Cast a spell to make you immune to webs and spider venom, then try everyones' ideas of talking to it.

You don't know any spells that could protect you from webs, at least not off the top of your head.
You cast MARDUKE THE SICKLY'S RESISTANCE TO POISON, which should give you some small level of protection against poison and disease.

Your MANA POOL is nearing its bottom fifth, and you are beginning to feel the burn of MAGICAL EXHAUSTION. You still have enough for at least one or two big spells, but it's best not to try and pull anything too exerting.
Like turning yourself into a large jungle cat. That would be a bad idea right now.

Discern purpose of the two dresser drawers in front of the insect. One appears to be filled with kitty litter? At any rate, cast spell of communication in order to facilitate this.

You surmise that this room held a large number of drawers, before it started falling apart and unravelling into nothingness due to shoddy construction.
One drawer was empty before you summoned a centipede into it. The other is filled with, unless you are mistaken, curdled milk.
Curdled milk that you almost dunked your face in. Ew.

The SPEAK WITH MONSTER spell is still active, and you use it to ask why the INSECT(?) is attacking.
It replies with a long screech, which translates as a string of curse words.
Very rude.

Good thing I suggested the poison protection.

No time to mess around, Squash it like the bug it is, Squishee, activate hammer mode!

Lead it out to the other insect, and try to distract it with the (hopefully) attractive female insect.
