Also, since the AI rarely use siege engines, even a few militias is enough to garrison a city while. In the turns it'll take them to build aldders and stuff, you can just bring your stack back.

This is a game with a lot of tweaks I did that probably make it completely imbalanced. This game is in a self-written alternate history where Carthage ultimately won against Rome. I'll be telling the story largely from the viewpoint of Count Bernardo. The country placement was procedurally generated, and I have no idea what the political landscape is like beyond my in-game knowledge. The map I'm using is pretty much the vanilla campaign map with more settlements in Africa. Credit to Taw for a whole lot of stuff.

The official goal is to hold 30 settlements including Constantinople, but I'll be setting my own objectives and doing quests for further direction.

When Hannibal the Cyclops destroyed Rome in the second Punic War, Carthage found itself the dominant Mediterranean power. But as all empires seem to, it declined after wars with the Saxangian Empire and the Greek city states. King Millian the Christian, who renamed the country after himself, made the state religion Catholicism after his conversion in 1002 A.D. Adoption rates of the government's endorsed religion are still low in traditionally Islamic North Africa, but the ruling class prides itself on it's piety and Christianity does seem to finally be gaining traction.



Milan is the remnant of the once great Carthaginian Empire, and Count Bernardo has high hopes for the rebuilding of all that has been lost. As heir to the kingdom, he has enough power to get things moving again for the first time in over 600 years. This is the chronicle of his ambition, and of the Carthaginian Phoenix.

Duke Giorgio negotiates with a Polish princess. (The random settlement allocator does a good job of clustering factions' settlements together. But as you may notice on the campaign minimap, some of them get the short end of the stick and end up with hilariously far flung provinces.)


Faced with no alternative, the Anarcho-Syndacist militia tries to break Count Bernardo's siege.


"This is the combat report you asked for, father. I had my troops building battering rams while they were starving the rebels out. The garrison understandably assumed that we'd be launching an assault, but the rams were really for breaking up their formation if they tried to charge our lines. -"


"- And I am glad to report that it worked. Yours truly, Count Bernardo." (I never seem to remember to take enough battle screenshots.)


The piety of one of our priests was noted, and the faithful servant of Christendom has taken his place in the Collage of Cardinals.


A port finally got built, and I order the construction some ships.


Tensions on Iberia finally break out, and war is declared.


Portugal, which resides in northern Italy, and the Moors, who control some of France, decide that times are too peaceful for their liking.


Spain, which controls Southern Italy and Corsica, signs a trade agreement.
