America: We teach all the boring history!

Pre-Columbus: Nope.
Revolutionary War: Dates and people.
Civil War: People and the battles which occurred in your state.
World War 1: Pretty much nothing.
World War 2: Only the parts we were in. We also learn our very first piece of tactics and actual battle-related stuff: There were lots of trenches.
Korean Conflict: Communism is bad. That is all there is to learn.
Everything Interesting Afterwards: Nope.
Everything not Involving America: Nope.

What I wouldn't give to have at least a semi-decent winter. Hell, I'd be satisfied with 9/12 months of complete winter. But no, fuck northeast mid-Atlanic climate.

And that's why Americans don't know shit about history: we all slept through our history courses, and said courses provide nothing useful anyway.

Seriously, I learned way more watching documentaries than I ever did in class. And then history channel adopted some ungodly number of reality shows...

This makes me wonder, how important is WWI in other countries' history classes and 'common knowledge'? The Netherlands wasn't part of it either and there is a lot less focus on it than on WWII I feel.

I love Ancient Greece history and mythology. It's really intriguing. I wish we had more lessons about that in high school.

The history lessons I got from high school was pretty much composed of %45 Ottoman Empire + %25 Medieval-Renaissance (more Renaissance than Medieval) Europe + %10 America stuff + %15 Modern Turkey + %5 Ancient history.

We don't really learn much stuff about WWII since Turkey was trying to stay neutral at that time. We focus more on WWI. WWI is a big topic in our history lessons and most children know a big deal about them. %15 of Modern Turkey history I mentioned is mostly about Turkey's guerrilla warfare against Ottoman Empire and the independence war against the invaders. We focus more on the aftermath of WWI.

BTW, the only history lessons in America are about America? Well, I used to think education here was shitty...

Also, trench warfare wasn't a common thing in WWII if I remember right.

No, there are other lessons about the World at large, but as Eric Blank said, most people either don't take them or fall asleep through them.  Some of us (i.e. me) actually paid attention to the world history courses because they were interesting.
