LCS: Wanted with no witnesses?
« on: April 02, 2013, 04:13:19 pm »

I am completely hooked on LCS right now, even if I have no idea how to actually influence policy enough to win.

Anyway, I'm trying to juice up my liberals by having them spray up the crackhouse, but even when I leave without conservative suspicion, they are wanted for vandalism. All of them too, not just the one with the spray can. The same goes for murders.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

You're spraying walls with the word "LCS." Its obvious who it is, and it has to be the one who leaves the place hold a spray can

Yeah, but if you can conceal a gun, why can't you conceal a spraycan? Also how is it known who all is in LCS, I thought the members were somewhat secretive.

Anyway, is there anyway to turn yourself in to go through the court precedings? I have a couple sleeper judges, so I'd rather just give them a clean slate now rather than wait until they're out doing legal things to get arrested

Yes, one good method is to go streaking in the police station. Find some cops, wait until they realize you're naked, and surrender as soon as they turn hostile. (Do not try this with death squads.)

The conservative justice system doesn't care about due process and witnesses.  They'll just cook up a bunch of evidence to pin a bunch of crimes on you on the technicality you committed them.  Luckily we have liberal ace attorneys to expose their misdeeds.

Police Streaking is my favorite way, but if you have wayyyyy too many wanted liberals (right now I'm playing a game with 80 activists), I prefer to just have one guy spend forever hacking until the cops show up, then just surrender. Sometimes they take some funds, but that's alright.

It's hilarious in the extreme to turn in your entire squad, send them to the court (with 5 sleeper judges, and one sleeper lawyer), have them all get life or a few years.
Then have a few pro infiltrators in reserve to break them all out and turn them in again, and be set free.
I feel this is some sort of oversight. IIRC, usually a new charge will be added to the old, and you will serve out the old sentence (let's say 20 years) AND a new one(let's say 35 years). Either concurrently or additionally, at the judge's discretion(so either 35 or 55years depending on the judge).

Well... that would be realistic. It's really a very petty issue standing in the way of doing this, and that's simply that we aren't currently tracking enough information about your criminal history to remember what your sentence was when you escape from prison. It's eminently fixable, if also the sort of thing that would break save compatibility.

I agree with mainiac's answer to the OP. A Conservative drone sees some graffiti/a broken door/someone who was assaulted, reports it to government officials, and the government - with their massive collection of photos, fingerprints, cameras, and experts - manages to attribute the Liberal to the crime. Not that the process is flawless, but it's certainly a powerful machine.

Offhand, I still wonder why lockpicking doesn't add to the "Breaking and Entering" count. Burglary is definitely more than smashing down a door.

True; IIRC Burglary is entering a restricted area for the purpose of committing a crime.  Picking a door should be practically undetectable assuming nobody's around to witness it.  Who's to say that some Conservative didn't forget to lock the door?

Same reason petty-theft doesn't attach charges.  Omnipresent, undefeatable surveillance is impractical IRL and would make the game pretty bloody touchy.

Why does this make me think Phoenix Wright takes place in the Conservative apocalypse?

I guess an extra "Justice System" issue could be added for extra effect:

Code: [Select]
    |.........X.........X.........X.........X.........X.........X.........X.........X <- 80 chars, max width
S: Enemies of state face execution without court process at all.
C++: Most criminals are detained without court process at all.
C+: Most cases receive a rushed verdict in days with little investigation.
C: Courts are more concerned with giving a verdict than finding the truth.
M: Court mistakes are rare, and due process is expected.
L: Due process is guaranteed for nearly everyone.
L+: All cases get due process, and court mistakes are virtually unheard of.

(S is for Stalinist -- there was an idea for an extra Stalinist Crime Squad, and most issues include an "S" option in dev/lawrefrence.cpp. C++ is for after the Arch-Conservative Amendment.)

For extra Conservative injustice, on C+, some crimes could result in higher charges (Say, a good shoot-out with slogan-shouting would result in a Terrorism charge as well, or extra Theft / Vandalism charges for a Breaking and Entering raid)...

>Stalinist Laws
I want somebody to mod those in(I am terrible with modding)

>Lockpick ≠ Breaking entering
Maybe the Conservative scum have decided to coax us Liberals with lock picking-that is free from the law-so they can ambush us later.

KA101, we could fill the entire subforum with everything in this game that's impractical in real life. I understand your point, but I wouldn't mind having a more intelligent crime tracking system which logged everything illegal you did on-site; should the Conservatives get suspicious, they blame the vanishing loot piles and curiously open doors on the Liberal Crime Squad. While eyes can't be everywhere in the grimdark dystopia of 2009, there should be enough of them to see the nineteen PDAs you're carrying out of the office complex.

What the game needs is another starting option: Fuss over Grimith's every error and make him pay dearly because there's almost no chance to end the Arch-Conservative Nightmare. That's catchy, right?

Wait, it has been a very long time since Ive been in a history class, but wasn't Stalin a communist? If he was wouldn't that make him lean more to the left?

I agree with this, very catchy, and why not throw in the unseen effect of making that cell phone you pick up, end up being the preident's Iphone 5, causing him to nuke the town for letting it get stolen.
