Omnicide vs. Nomnicide.

If you wrote that book I would borrow the shit out of it.
So would I.

Same here, and hopefully the content would match the awesome story blurb/synopsis.

Option 6: There are aliens with technology so advanced we cannot distinguish it from the laws of physics.
I'm going with this one. WHy can we not see aliens?  ALIENS ARE THE UNIVERSE
Or we could go all Sid Meier and have the planets themselves be life forms.
...How long ago did he come up with this idea?

From what I hear, Brian Reynolds was the real lead designer behind Alpha Centauri, but "Sid Meier's XYZ" sounded better for the marketing department than "Brian Reynold's XYZ". Later "Sid Meier's" label games were no more created by Sid, than KFC is directly created by Colonel Saunders. Brian Reynolds collaborated with Sid on Colonization, then did Civ 2, "Sid Meier's" Gettysburg and later Alpha Centauri. Sid didn't have much, if any, direct input into Civ 2 or Alpha Centauri I think.

Plus, the whole living planet thing is really old. I can think of at least a couple of sci fi novels that i've read from the 60's and 70's that have the concept of a sentient planet. It's probably much older than that though.

Was SimEarth Sid Meyer or Will Wright?  Because that also involves Gaia hypothesis.

I believe in sort of a naturalistic version of that.  The Earth is self-regulating and self-balancing but not conscious or "alive."

SimXYZ is Maxis / Will Wright. Although not always, since you can't trademark a generic prefix.
