Oh Armok Damnit.
« on: March 27, 2013, 06:15:42 pm »

Long ago, I had an awesome adventurer who killed countless bandits and kobolds, a plains titan, and a number of other beasties. Along the way, she became a Mace Lord (Lady?), a Necromancer, and then a Vampire. I got bored with her and retired her in a city at some point, to start the adventure anew with some other poor bastard. After a string of dead poor bastards, I finally kept one alive long enough to get to a nearby city. "This city seems familiar," I think to myself. I beg for a quest, kill a night beast, return, ask for another, and am told to kill a vampire that has infiltrated society. Hey, guess who that vampire ends up being.

My god-like, nigh immortal, mace wielding lunatic former adventurer.

Armok Damnit.

And this is why I love Dwarf Fortress.

I've tried this and it generally ends with the former adventurer killing the entire city without a scratch, becoming even more skilled in the process, and then killing you.

I tried it and died. I'm reasonably sure the local population didn't survive either.

Can you still play as that adventurer afterwards?
It may be a nice way to grind combat skills without your intervention.

yea, your pretty screwed if you made her a necromancer as well, if she was just a vampire she'd have died from the town mobbing her.

your best bet is to leave her alone for now and get stronger, then come back later and recruit her. Bring her to a bronze colossus and when your in the middle of the fight, call her out by accusing her of night creaturery. Then conveniently bash her in the head since you've positioned yourself behind her before calling her out and its done since she'll be busy with the colossus.

That sounds pretty epic, facing an entity who you've seen improve and was formerly your agent of adventure who now terrorizes the local populace.
Sure beats the suddenly appearing titan who you know little of and less of what it's capable of.

You know it's capabilities and you should know it's weaknesses (if you don't, then you're screwed).

Her only weakness is that she, as a human (sort of), has nerves. Nerves which can be severed. Good luck hitting them, though.

Become famous. Recruit an army. Become skilled in every combat feat possible to achieve. Become a were-beast. Become a necromancer.

That should ensure an even fight. You can heal, she cannot. Your army will take mortal wounds for you. Her undead legions will not attack you.

@Loud Whispers: That sounds like the greatest movie in the entire world and I would pay to see that. You simply must try this suggestion and take pictures.

When the adventurer is told there is no more need for them, when there are no more targets to kill, why do they act surprised when our "hero" turns towards them and says "No"?

Better yet, make a recording of the battle and post it to the map archive!

Did anything become of this? I'd love to hear how it ended. And also I'd love to hear what happened to the city.

It's only been two weeks so technically this isn't a necro. >_>

I tried - once - to kill her with aforementioned poor bastard, but he died moments later. I decided that it's a bad idea to try again and savescummed. She still resides there, in her little cottage on the south side of town, preying upon the hapless (an whiny) residents of that town.

Have you tried using ranged weapons? Arrows and bolts put down all of my gods eventually.
