What there was a DF-based TV show/movie/anime?
« on: March 22, 2013, 04:50:40 pm »

Of all the media, animations are the only ones that DF wasn't explicitly featured in.
We've got a DF song (Tankard Basher), loads of comic books, a whole damn library of stories and the like, but no movie or animation or anything...

What would one look like?
I'm expecting focusing on both foundation of a fortress and some adventure moments, too.

Also, HFS, candy, catsplosions and sieges.
You know you want it.

Actually there is this short DF animation which has already been posted here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1kBedai-rk

It's in German with English subtitles.

Greetings

Hey, it even has POLISH subtitles.
That's a novelty if you ask me, Dwarf Fortress isn't spectacularly popular around here. (that said, Polish community exists, but it's no HoMM3, honestly)

This thread has inspired me to create a short DF cartoon. I'll see you in two months.

Just so I'd have an idea of what would be expected of me:
Should I use an already existing DF plot, like Boatmurdered, or create my own?

Dwarf it. Dwarf it to the dwarfest.
Regarding the plot I guess you could go with anything you wanted really.

A sect of seven psychologically damaged dwarves that don't really care any more, fighting for their farming rights under the volcanic mountains. After discovering a particularly tasty breed of plump helmets, they attempt to weaponize the delicious purple spade in some way, hoping to use the revolutionary weapon to defeat the vile ampersands from the very depths of hell itself.

Then it happened. Then I cringed. Then I picked it up and beat him to death with it, and then his buddies, too.
You beat a man to death with his dick?

Are they defeating the cats, or using the cats as a secondary weapon?

Listen up: making a thing a ‼thing‼ doesn't make it more awesome or extreme.  It simply indicates the thing is on fire.  Get it right or look like a silly poser.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

Launching cats at the enemy at the precise moment the give birth, resulting in a hail of pissed-off fur and claws.

Just thought I'd let y'all know.
I finished my previous animation project so now I can finally begin working on this cartoon. It has officially advanced to the "make it really awesome in your head" stage, w00t.

So...yeah. I guess that's about it for now...

*awkward coughing*

EDIT: fixed typos to sound more professional

One thing really worth including - a dragon fighting a giant desert scorpion, getting stinged (but no other injuries on the dragon's end) and then...
You know what. ;)

Just a suggestion. Not needed to be included.
Also, what style are you aiming for in this one?

Badly-drawn?
Anime?
Cel-shaded?
ASCII?
Nostalgia cartoon?

I'll just do it in a 2D cartoony style.
My drawing style is difficult to describe, and I don't have any pictures of my artwork uploaded to the webz.
This looks vaguely similar to what I suppose my final product will look, at least the characters: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/images/9/9d/DF_Cheese.jpg.
Expect less shading and more solid colors...except for the backgrounds, which will look as amazing as I can manage. It might sound strange to combine (digitally) painted backgrounds with 2D animations, but it will work just fine.
I'm also drawing some inspiration from the never-finished Boatmurdered cartoon's concept art.
