Transferring Saves
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:49:46 pm »

So, I'm trying to transfer a savefile.

I got her Region1 file, and I renamed it Region2 and plopped it into my save folder. DF didnt see it.

So, I took out my Region1, and renamed hers Region1 and restarted the game and DF still didnt see it.

She Windows and I'm OSX. I dont remember this being an issue in the past.

Elves in masterwork gold chains was the first thing that came to mind.

Different version of DF?
This would probably be my first guess. I know that saves are interchangeable, since I move them from my windows to my mac and back fairly often.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

I had a similar issue last night.

The "regionXX" folder is the world map you add, and choose to "Start Game."

The files in the "current" folder, have stuff where your save/progress is, and choose to "Continue."

LNP also has a button to update save games, but I think it's linked to graphic packs.

It was the same version.

I think my issue was that I needed to abandoned my current fortress to select the new one.

If you're going between the same OS you might as well just bundle the entire DF folder. The DF exe is tiny compared to the saves.

Wrong.

The "regionXX" folder always contains the current state of the region, including your active fortress or adventurer.

The "current" folder only contains files while you are playing, and its contents get merged back into the "regionXX" folder when you save. Its sole purpose is to make sure that game crashes do not corrupt your saved game by leaving files in an inconsistent state (for example, having an old world.sav which says your outpost liaison is in unit-184.dat, but said liaison died and got replaced with one in unit-197.dat, resulting in the liaison's arrival triggering a "Nemesis Unit Load Failed").
