So yes, discussions about this show. I'm currently rewatching them all. They so good

Latest Episode: Bad Little Boy, Donald Glover as Marshell Lee was pretty math.

Bravest Warriors is another show by Pendleton Ward, 5-7 minute youtube episodes about a gang of future warrior people from Mars in a very weird sci-fi setting very akin to the Land of Ooo, but weirder. Also the best character ever, catbug.

I am super in love with Adventure Time.  It's become one of my favorite shows ever.  The juxtaposition of innocent play with heavy implication of horribly depressing mature themes is... I don't know how to describe it... it's like Miyazaki, Zelazny, and Alan Moore banged their heads together.  And it's so well balanced.  It can be thrilling, comic, and sombering all within a cohesive 11 minutes.  Everything feels fresh and wildly creative.  They constantly surprise me.  My love for the characters deepens with every episode.  I'm 4 episodes into Season 5, and the prospect of running out saddens me.  It's good to know that season 6 is already confirmed, plus offshoot material.  It's successful and going to be around for a while.

Adventure Time is amazing. I watch the show and read the comics.

Bravest Warriors is also pretty great, and more mature which is always nice. I haven't read the comics, has anyone else? They're on like Issue 5 and I'm starting to wonder if I should get on that.

Seems to be the only song from the show that actually sounds like a song that I heard so far. I am really enjoying listening to the covers.

Oh my god.  I wasn't this kind of child either, but this basically distills everything I loved from the beginning of Dragonball and then puts some cute little ears on it.  It's just so... I want to rub my face on it, it's that sort of feeling.  I'm really glad I've got this to watch now :3

So here's a thought that struck me today.

Is Ice King actually the most strong-willed/good guy character in the show?  When Finn put on the Ice Crown, it corrupted him instantly.  Ice King resisted it for many years, doing good deeds while it slowly chipped away at his sanity.  It seems like Finn is often portrayed as the most ultimately pure and innocent and strongest willed character, but this event seems like it may have set up Ice King as severely outclassing him.  The thing is most of what we see of his character is after 1000 years of wearing the crown.

Other factors:  Ice King was older and probably much more self-aware when he first put on the crown, thus better equipped to resist influence.  This speculation could also be based on something that was nothing but the writing demands of that episode.

The more they reveal about Ice King, the more he establishes himself as my favorite character.  I was absolutely stunned when they did the first big reveal on his backstory.

I remember back in like season 2 or 3 of Adventure Time where they mentioned the Mushroom War and stuff about the world's backstory, but also said they never planned on including it in the actual show because it was too mature.

That is a thought.  But Finn wasn't exactly fighting the crown, he needed it to defeat those Mad Max-esque gangsters.  He might have simply allowed the crown to do what needed to be done.  And remember, when he heard his little sibling cry, Alterna-Finn seemed to snap back into reality, even if for a little while.  Had the crown forced him to say, hurt his own family, I have a feeling that Otherworld-Finn would have fought harder.

But yes, Ice King is awesome.  His episode ( and just general storyline ) with Marceline, is my favorite so far, followed by the whole Finn=Flame Princess=Princess Bubblegum love triangle.

The Crown perverts the desire of the one who holds it, yet doesn't give them the stability of mind to enact it. The Ice King's desires were simple, he just wanted his "princess" back and slowly it whittled away at him. There wasn't much to corrupt as the Ice King's ultimate motivations are not big but rather small, he just wants to be loved.

While Finn is a dreamer and he wants the world.

Ice King is no stronger willed than the kings of men who fell to Sauron's rings - ordinary men seduced by a trinket imbued with a dark power they couldn't resist.  Finn may have been instantly 'converted' by the crown, but he didn't try to keep it after the fact.  He could have kept the crown to assist him in the goal of 'saving the world' but giving up his own will to do so is completely against everything Finn stands for - how can one be a hero when one has given in to villainy?

Whereas Ice King resigned himself to his fate after realizing what the crown was, and even after making a "video to the future" describing what it was.  What stopped him from discarding the crown, from putting it someplace it could affect no one?  Only his own weakness.

After these hundreds of years, Ice King is insane, holding only the barest ideations of right against wrong.  He wants to be 'friends' with Finn because he desperately craves companionship, but he no longer has the slightest idea of what actual friendship entails, and he plays at confidence only in the manic way his lack of sanity allows.   Only the barest traces of his former pre-crown personality remain.  He is Gollum with ice magic.

I think the crown is sentient, and knows its own role in the Ice King's downfall, which is why it weeps when it's placed on the Shelf of Penitence.

And that first reveal left me speechless as well.  It's impressive how deep a children's cartoon can be.  He's an extremely sympathetic character and you can't help but feel bad for him.
