I actually think BS12 has events affecting the costs of some items. Mostly the newscaster things, like food riots raising the cost of, well, food. Might be wrong, though.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

I'm the type of person who likes economy simulation games, though, so I could get far too hung up on this.   :P  Fluctuating exchange rates between Supply Points and credits, events triggering/being triggered by purchases and sales (supply shuttle arrivals/departures), etc.  Probably way beyond what most people would want/accept.
I don't think its the players that need convincing. Its the coders.

So what is the current state of the AI law debate?

It exists? :P

More seriously, what do you mean by AI law debate?

Like, what are AI laws going to be like after we switch to Baycode? I'm pretty sure they haven't decided on just keeping Baycode laws yet (and I really hope they don't).

What's so bad about them?

I want to be everyone's bitch equally, not the captain's. Also I don't like being able to kill humans in any circumstances (without being subverted of course).

...

I've said I vote Paladin with some modification enough.

I'll just go to my corner and save everyone time.

PALADIN is a pretty specialized kinda thing, not something that should be default. I do support the AI's ability to choose PALADIN from a selection of lawsets of the beginning of the round though. Also, what about it do you think should be modified?

Eh.

Just mainly some more definites instead of the whole objective definition of somethings, IE, Murder and such are definitely evil, however I agree, relooking over the laws, yet again, I've realized... I probably am terrible at ideas for laws :P

Ignore me~

PALADIN's ambiguity is what makes it awesome. It's also what makes it a bad idea for a starting lawset.

Yeah. RP-Wise it's quite entertaining, however I agree, as I said, a bit ambiguous and an AI could use to to screw the crew over at round start because of possibilities when Asimov or otherwise would work better...

I would like an A.I. law set that used the traditional law set, but held a better regard for positions of rank in terms of orders given to it.

Most Asimov AIs will respect rank when there's a conflict. The fact that they can ignore rank at their own discretion can be a safeguard against major comdoms.
