Man, I laughed my ass off last session. I feel inclined to post the whole part of the chat log where we meet the gay bard. It was so fucking funny! GiH probably decided to make him a male when Gillen stopped me from seducing her with my manly scent and badass muscles. I'm glad that I didn't stop playing at 6:00 AM and kept on playing until 9:00 AM instead. I'm standing with like 3 hours of sleep right now. I kept laughing on the bed for half an hour before falling asleep.

Also, when I said "Artael plays with his flail" I never intended something dirty. I'm never gonna live this one down now though.

EDIT: Did I just post this at the same second with Naryar?

Btw, I'm thinking about writing something like "Artael's Journal" with extra hilarity and RP funniness! Not now though, I can barely keep my eyes open.

For one, I can't differentiate between your DM notes and standard writing.

As the party approaches, it becomes evident the bard is a man.  Probably.  His slender form and pristine skin is still GORGEOUS, and his smile sweet and disarming, along with a soft and cheerful voice.  Artael and Lek are saddened, although Gillen seems to have been expecting traps - of one sort or another.

You imply Lek is in any way attracted ?? Nonsense ! Lek only lives for battle and conflict !

But all that innuendo nonsense (and the gay bard) made me laugh so very much that I took 5 minutes to stop laughing - and I had to catch my breath and nearly suffocated of laughter.

I only hope we have stuff just as funny as this in the next session, and also fights as badass as the giant badger fight.

Yeah, I learned that one huge fucking badass monster is much better than 2000 goblins charging at you.

A good balance between the two would be swell.

Yeah, I learned that one huge fucking badass monster is much better than 2000 goblins charging at you.

A good balance between the two would be swell.

I dunno, the "big mean monster" thing seems to be good for XP but... a bit short.

Overall I liked the gob fight because of more complex tactical choices, but the giant badger fight was more exciting and generally badass especially Lek's epic finish, even if it was just "move to monster, hit, no other tactical options" Plus I got to do something more than healing and buffing and failing attack rolls. also, i got something to make a cool helmet and cloak of.

It was short because people responded to their turns promptly. In our goblin assault, people took a loooooong time to figure out what they are doing. That's probably why. Maybe armored ogres.

We also spent a lot of time with rolling dices for all goblins and deciding how to assault took time too. That's probably why it took 1.5 sessions.

I'm actually now debating using a Python script on my side to roll mass dice.  So I'd just set up a group with "the goblins prepare to fire" and then roll a lot of dice via my program (admittedly, that you can't see) and report who gets hit.

For melee, standard rolls are fine, but the bow goblins had low attack rolls and there were a lot of them, so rolling in bulk proved to be a lot better.  I may grab 2-3 people during the week and run a test encounter that doesn't matter, and see how some large combat might work with other assistance.

I like seeing the rolls, mostly so we can laugh at our enemies when they snap a bowstring over a natural 1.

Remember how I lodged my flail (and ripped a goblin's leg apart) in some spongy ground while we were assaulting the goblin fort? Seems a lot funnier now doesn't it?

I'm okay with the scripting idea since sessions take a lot of time because we are typing. It should speed combat up.

I'd likely use the off-site scripting for arbitrarily large dice rolls clusters.  Like, there's 20 bowmen firing a volley - not really aiming for anyone in specific, it'd roll a -2 on their attack and then randomly decide who gets hit.  Similarly, if two armies are fighting to the side while you sneak into a fortress, I might abstractly calculate the fighting in bulk, so it can have a 'real' feeling without me sitting there rolling dice for 10 minutes for something you're not directly involved in.

You could take the vassal warhammer40k mod and use that, squad vs squad rules and can even place them on a map and so on for nice-semi-random large scale battles. Also, I'm reading this.

Not sure how 40k handles it, but Pathfinder has its own Mass Combat rules for large-scale battles, with 100 being 'default' army size, and it fits the theme for d20 dice rolls and whatnot.  For the bulk dice, I'm mostly saying for special occasions, like when the party participates in a national siege.  I could take the generic MMO-type route and be like "Alright, you sneak in through the sewers while the army and siege engines have a huge climactic battle out front." and the party would just say, "So right out there is an epic fight, and we literally get shit?"  Instead I'll be getting a little bit more creative.

I have a situation not unlike that, a siege (greatly affected by previous actions from my Party, its a bunch of my co-workers, so we basically play every other week).

The flanks above and under them are a off-screen-battle, where I role several d20 on various events, partly affected by them, partly affecting them. Sometimes enemys spill over, sometimes a ally, sometimes supply, sometimes AOE effects, sometimes a buff or de-buff. It works out pretty nicly, especially since I can cheat just a little to make it more cinematic.

I'm however struggling with the intense lenght this combat is taking, its a two session deal and a session is around 6 hours, 5 hours of game-time minus the breaks. Great fun thou : )
