Let's Play The Secret of Loom
« on: February 16, 2013, 08:34:29 pm »

From the manual:
Quote
In The Secret of Loom you play the role of Bobbin Threepwood, a young boy coming of age in a fantasy Caribbean on the brink of apocalypse. Wielding a legacy of magical knowledge, you will set out across a tropical seascape filled with beauty, danger and excitement, making new friends, solving mysteries, and growing in experience and power as you sail your way toward a destiny of overwhelming consequence.

This is the first screen:

I'm led to believe from a short cut-scene that Bobbin has been stranded on this island after being warped by chaos while in the form of a bird. The manual mentions a Distaff and Book of Patterns that need to be found. We can move around and look at things, but that seems to be the full range of interaction.

Suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated!

Visit the Scumm bar and meet with the elders in front of the loom of course. They should give you three challenges.

Okay, I went right and tried to open the door. The door was selectable, but Bobbin just says it's closed. Maybe he needs his Distaff? Looks like I can travel right or left from here.

Given the lack of suggestions for immediate action, I've decided to head to the right.

First I go past some more houses, but there's nothing to interact with so I continue on through the archway.

What should I do now?

Buy back the minutes from the town hall meeting your distaff from the shifty eyed gentleman, naturally.

Hurrah! First I tried clicking on the man, but in conversation he refused to give me back my staff. But when I clicked on the staff, he admitted that it didn't actually belong to him. Interacting with him after retrieving the Distaff prompts him to give a snarky comment, saying something about not helping me find the lost treasure of the island now.

So, now I have the Distaff, I still need my Book of Patterns. Or I can just start listening out for Drafts. So what now?

This looks... familiar somehow.

Song notes remind me a bit of Total Distortion actually...

Toasting to Botch.

I can't see any poodles about, so I return back to the docks and head left:

Shall I continue on left?

Peer creepily through the window like someone who should be on a register.  If noticed, abscond hastily to the left/up.
