There was another one in San Francisco (not any damage though).  Maybe the thread should be renamed "Earth under seige by meteorites".
Oh my god, someone's begun an Sburb session.

Funny how the media reports on things more when they're "relevant." Anyone remember the comet explosions over Sudan and Indonesia in the past decade?

Kinda. Though those didn't do that much damage, right?

Would it be 'reentry', or just 'entry', since they never left the earths atmosphere in the first place?

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

Well one of them came down over a desert, the other over a coastal ocean, so no, not really. The airbursts over Indonesia and Sudan were also ten and a hundred times less powerful respectively (if wikipedia is to be believed).

EDIT: Also there happened to be a lot of footage of the meteor in question. Which is probably thanks to all the Russian dash cams which are practically mandatory over there. "A meteor went off somewhere completely uninhabited and we have no footage of it" doesn't strike the same chord as footage of a flaming ball of fire flying through the sky.

...the event, from atmospheric entry to the meteor's airborne disintegration took 32.5 seconds

Quote from: NASA
...it was a very shallow entry.

Emphasis mine.

The fact that a synonym exists doesn't mean that any other word with the same meaning could not be used.

That is the best "whatever" face I've ever seen on a guy, and Russians have some good whatever faces.
