Australia thought that they were going to get a solid third of the place, but France is the best colonial troll.

I'm amused how a third of the UK's slice is also claimed by Chile and Argentine, but right on the other side of Chile is a whole unclaimed 1/6th of the continent.

Doesn't even matter. The land will go to whomever decides to colonize first, Antarctica Treaty be damned.

We should allow the penguins to govern themselves.

Wait, so as well as there being a Queen Elizabeth Land there's a Princess Elizabeth Land? That's just greedy.

The Poles are horrible to launch from. So unless you manage to shift the South pole to the Equator, na-ah.

We just have to claim the area, place explosives around it to separate it from the rest of the antarctic, move it to the Equator like a giant icy boat, and launch the rocket before it melts !

I wonder why no govermnents did that before, it sounds like the best idea to launch easily a rocket/something/bieber fans into space.

Oh yeah, the US, Russia, South Africa, and Peru all reserve the right to make a claim.

Quote
Emilio Marcos Palma was the first person born south of the 60th parallel south (the continental limit according to the Antarctic Treaty),[46] as well as the first one born on the Antarctic mainland, in 1978 at Base Esperanza, on the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula;[47][48] his parents were sent there along with seven other families by the Argentine government to determine if family life was suitable on the continent. In 1984, Juan Pablo Camacho was born at the Frei Montalva Station, becoming the first Chilean born in Antarctica. Several bases are now home to families with children attending schools at the station.[49] In 2009, eleven children were born in Antarctica (south of the 60th parallel south): eight at the Argentinean Esperanza Base[50] and three at the Chilean Frei Montalva Station.[51]

Argentina is making progress soldifying their control, they also conducted a military drill to annoy the british. The only interesting occurence was when they met a american radio operator who, after learning they weren't soviets, invited them to dinner.

Also, there is a US service medal for Antarctica. I need that. That is now on my list of Life Goals. With the "wintered over" bar for 2 term 6-monthers.

In that case, I will eventually go claim some portion of Antarctica for the glorious state of Mollosia.
