Yeah, military intervention because taxes is a good idea. There aren't enough other ridiculous excusesreasons to kill people already.

The usage of the word "righteous" alone is a red flag.

But how about when the target is Monaco, Switzerland, or BVI? These places are basically defenseless, not much blood will be shed, and the main objective is the ultimate submission of their taxation system to the EU anyway.

I would even recommend a EU annexation of the Arab peninsula. Not the US-type of fighting and then leaving, but to actually enforce UDHR and ECHR through laws, in a way like they are enforced in the city of Brussels.

Russia unveils their Navy Seal team.

This makes me want to move to Russia. How can a country that has trained beret-wearing seals not be the greatest country in the world?

A French art teacher has managed to summon Facebook unto the European High Court, for removing a picture from the famous painting "l'Origin du Monde", made by Gustave Courbet in 1866, from his facebook page.
Facebook has alway claimed that it only needs to hold itself to American laws, and claimed the painting falls under the classification of porn by American law.

Link to the painting in question:

The art teacher has argued now for a while that Facebook, nor any state, are qualified to distinguish between art and pornography, nor entitled to apply censorship based on laws that are not valid in the country where the content was originally posted. He has now succesfully managed to convince the European high court to take on the case, in which Facebook is being accused of unlawful censorship.

The outcome could mean a lot for internet freedom, and American law controlling a lot of providers.

Switzerland, defenseless? Really?

Switzerland is a country sized fortress with a country sized garrison. That is as far from defenseless as you can get.

Plus they are in the Alps, and experts at mountain warfare by nature. Think Afghanistan mountain guerilla, but instead of rusty AK47s they have the most modern equipment available.
I don't think attacking Switzerland would go without many bodybags being sent back home to the invaders.

Only survival allows deadly violence and only the violation of the personal space of a natural person allows other kinds of violence in my eyes. Both, of course, only if the violation of personal space or death can be prevented by the violence used.

Using violence to enforce laws in countries which don't even have those laws is definitely not acceptable.

It's not like a country being in the EU prevents usage of said country for tax evasion.

Don't you remember Steinbrück's cavalry? :P

Seriously though, an outright invasion of Switzerland would be foolish. I think a more 'Russian' approach would be taken if a decision was made to incorporate Switzerland into the EU: Utilize a pins-and-needles tactics, selective blockades, low-level military action, but always give the Swiss a good reason not to escalate the situation themselves.
And if it does come to an all-out war, a bombing campaign coupled with a cutoff from imports of food, oil, and raw materials would break their neck rather quickly. There'd probably not even be a need for occupation troops.

Related, there's this old joke:
In 1940 the Nazis are planning the invasion of Switzerland, codenamed Operation Tannenbaum. A diplomat is tasked with sounding out a Swiss officer about the Swiss defenses.
"You are a small country, completely surrounded by our forces. How could you hope to survive an attack? We'd crush you within minutes."
"Mein Herr, we are a small country, but we have many mountains and valleys, many tunnels and caves, many fortifications and strongholds. And our entire population is trained and willing to resist any aggressor. If you invade, the whole Swiss people will become a single Swiss army intent on throwing you out. Even at this very moment, we have 250.000 militiamen under arms."
"So what would you do if we invaded with 500.000 of our soldiers?"
"Each of our men would shoot twice. Then we'd go home."

Switzerland is the sort of country nuclear weapons were invented for. It's small, insanely fortified, fanatical, and dense. Just keep nuking until there are no more mountains left there to hide tax dollars in.

The combination of the complete destruction of all infrastructure near the surface and a blockade/no-fly-zone (which eliminates both their ability to get resources from outside, and to build or grow it themselves) will either lead to surrender, total annihilation, or the retreat of the Swiss to deep underneath the world to become reclusive cave-dwarves; Any of these outcomes would achieve your wargoal of eliminating Swiss tax havens.

Fallout from modern nuclear weapons is pretty negligible actually. I doubt it would be too bad.

Speaking of nukes, why don't we nuke the Mediterranean? Seems like an elegant solution to our migrant problem.

We're not being overrun by mermaids. Nuking Africa would be more efficient for that purpose.

A more elegant solution would be cannibalism, make something useful out of unskilled workers.  :P

It's pretty rich that you regard them as "useless", considering that Southern Europe's agricultural sector routinedly resorts to them as (illegal, grossly overworked and underpaid) labor.
