Barney White-Spunner, Executive Chairman of the British pressure group known as
Countryside Alliance, who once said that the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) are a "sinister and nasty organisation" has written an article in the Daily Telegraph indicating his support for "English Votes for English Laws" on the basis that it would prevent the 41 Scottish MPs from voting on fox-hunting legislation.
You see, the incredibly barbaric bloodsport known as fox hunting is banned in the UK now, one of the only good things Tony Blair ever did. The British upper class (who dominate rural life, even in Scotland) haven't shut up about it since. Fox hunting isn't just shooting foxes - everyone does that out here. I'm sure I heard the local gamekeepers shooting foxes near my house a few days ago. "Fox hunting" involves training dogs to chase down the fox and rip it to shreds, then the unspeakably wealthy hunters (who dress up almost like jockeys in silly hats and tights and ride expensive horses) paint their faces with the fox's blood and so on before riding home, spending thousands of pounds in the process. It's a really crazy thing, you should look into it if you're interested.
But yes, Barney White-Spunner says that the Scots, quote,
"Stand in the way of hunting" and EVEL (legislation preventing Scottish MPs from voting on matters that affect England only) will ensure that England can reintroduce The Hunt and so on. I am endlessly amused by Mr. White-Spunner's full name, which is as follows:
Lieutenant General Sir Barnabas William Benjamin White-Spunner, Knight-Commander of the Order of the Bath, Commander of the British EmpireThe fact that he's a Knight-Commander of the Order of the Bath indicates he's pretty much a personal friend of the Royal family - hence why he was personally honoured twice by the Queen.
I just thought I should share this little piece with you as a glimpse of a certain demographic in Britain that actually produce all of our most influential politicians, including our Prime Minister David Cameron who belongs to the same social circles as Mr. White-Spunner (even went to the same school i.e. Eton) and also supports the reintroduction of Fox-Hunting. This is the British elite, ladies and gentlemen.
