Extremists are not insane. They might sound like that, but they won't shoot for no reason. As long as you don't provoke them.
No, that's pretty much the definition of a violent extremist. This is why, for example, the Taliban attack schools that teach girls.

That said, Iran is not likely to launch a nuke because the people with their fingers on the button aren't the true extremists. They're the people who lead the extremists, and have too much to lose.

They're pretty few extremists in Iran actually. You only get those when they have something to fight against. Without a big bad to unite against, they fall apart. There might been some conservative elements, but really, those are ignorable.

They might be quite nice.

Afghanistan is also another "Islamic Republic" that we are spending quite a lot of money trying to protect and rebuild.

afghanistan is not an example of an islamic republic

afghanistan is an example of a victim of the cold war

really doubt that democracy's going to come back there after the us is done with it

Exactly. It's not an islamic republic yet, but might become one (again) in a few years. Currently it's just a pseudo-democracy held together by foreign money.

Currently, Afghanistan is a country torn apart by warlords and corporate interests. Really, the government controls little, US and allies control airports, some cities and the oil*, and the warlords control the rest.

*It's all about the oil. Democracy has nothing to do with it. This is simply a smash and grab for resources.

The official title of Afghanistan is the "Islamic Republic of Afghanistan".

It's neither Islamic, nor a Republic, nor a working country.

Just like the DPRK isn't Democratic, nor does it belong to the People of Korea. That said, the state religion of Afghanistan is Islam and no law may contradict the beliefs and provisions of Islam. Apostasy from Islam is punishable by death.

Iran didn't do to much bad things lately. It's mainly bad press from the US because they held their embassy hostage all those years ago.
They're enriching uranium. As in, something you need to do before getting nuke-yelir weapons. They may claim they're developing a civvy energy program, but I imagine, of the almost 20,000 centrifuges they have for enrichment, it would be quite easy to 'lose' some to a secret project for weaponising it.
Please find any non-US supplied proof of that. I mean, Iraq had nuclear weaponry too, didn't they. ((Also, Pakistan has nuclear weaponry too, and isn't the most stable of states. I don't see the problem about them getting their own Nuclear program.))

Quote
The problem with Iran is they're an Islamic republic. One thing that religion is good at, is producing extremists, irrespective of their religious manual and bent. If an extremist individual gets their hands on a nuclear weapon, I don't think any nuclear power can convince them not to use it.
Extremists are not insane. They might sound like that, but they won't shoot for no reason. As long as you don't provoke them.

Besides, the US is just as capable of electing warmongering leaders.

Heh. iran is openly admitting they enrich uranium.

and supporting the massacre of more than 100k of people in syria and directly funding terrorist groups to act against israel, europe, fellow muslim countries and the u.s is pretty much the definition of "bad things lately".

Iran has nukes and is going to kill us any day now.  Yes, I know I've been saying that for the last 10 years, but this time I really mean it

I'm more worried about Iran/Israel escalating. As long as only Israel has nukes, the situation can only get so bad. Israel can't go beyond a certain point without the whole world falling on them for it, and Iran is incapable of escalating it beyond that point.

If they both have nukes? Shit could well go down. People were afraid of the Pakistan/India potential, but at least they recognize each other. Iran and Israel are as close to open warefare as you can get without actually doing it.

I see no difference with the US, actually. Really, the US set up most of these organizations, supplied arms to all of them, and caused the coups that resulted in the formation of the others.

Also, Iran was one of the first / only countries to denounce the Taliban in Afghanistan, before the attacks of  9/11.

Adding to that, the US and other western powers orchestrated and supplied weapons for a war against them with over half a million death, and devastating economic damage. Not hard to see why they hold a grudge.

And by the way, Israel is responsible for ethnic cleansing, invading neighbors and supporting terrorists group (I don't care if you call them settlers, when they start shooting unarmed civilians for a political cause they're terrorist. And the US seems totally okay with that.

Yeah, double standards rule in world politics. Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi and all that. If you are on the "right" side you can do almost anything with no repercussions. Israel really is the shining beacon of this.
