I will never tire of seeing Farage saying other people are fascists.

e: Other people who aren't part of his fascist grouping in the EU parliament, of course

Incidentally, in case it becomes a problem, i need to put together a kit for a couple of my friends who are currently despairing with the other parties to the point that they think UKIP's a viable alternative. I can do it myself, but nevertheless i have a feeling you're more aware of the glaring mistakes then i am.

The Eurovision Song Contest is pretty political, in terms of who awards who votes.

UKIP could be very successful if they'd just drop the far-right social policies. Foolish to not take advantage of the current Euroscepticism in the UK by alienating people who don't agree with their social agenda.

That's exactly what they've tried to do.  If you look at their "policies" it's just a disjointed list of populist measures to try and chip dissatisfied voters off other parties.

I was thinking more of a Big Tent approach, united by Euroskepticism and otherwise defaulting to moderate.

Disregarding that different areas of Europe have different music cultures and tastes...

Yeah, but I've seen discussions (on here, even) of past contests. The voting is definitely political, especially for countries who know they don't have a shot to win.

Eurovision is barely even the correct name at this point. It's more like Mediteranian-Eurasianvision now.

Trouble is there isnt really a groundswell of Euroscepticism working in the favour of UKIP in the UK, save for amongst groups that are already Eurosceptic - such as traditional Tory voters who are dissilusioned with thier current "centrist" approach looking for "true conservatism" - those voters were never likley to swing in favour of Labour.

I think UKIP would be far more successful in an independent England, though they probably wouldn't exist in the same incarnation. There isn't nearly as much of a groundswell of Euroscepticism in England as the papers say there is, but there's certainly enough of it in England for UKIP to do pretty well. They just need to iron out their differences with the Conservatives. UKIP are basically just old Conservatives anyway, a bit like the Conservatives would be today if they hadn't done their best to shift to the centre to get votes.

What I really hope for is a stong Labour reaction - display polar opposite behaviour to UKIP to attract voters who are insulted by thier family freindly racism, leaving the Tories stuck in the middle, floundering. I think its safe to say that the LibDems have governed themselves into obscurity, and disillusioned LibDem voters could be easily gained by Labour if they do show more left wing/socialist ideals.

Worst case scenario: Tory/UKIP coalition next general election. Not likley to happen though as they are competing over the same voters, hence weakining each other in a FPTP system.
