There were earlier reports also that of the 298 victims, the rebels had found 282, but only 200 had been transported by train to the Netherlands. It's not clear what happened to the others, there probably are still bodies at the crash site.

Back from Scotland, and whilst I was there I noticed that the Scottish flag flies almost as much as the Red Hand of Ulster flies at home.

Not sure if this indicates patriotism or separatism...probably both.

How did you get on in Scotland? Where did you go, out of interest? Forgive my curiosity but I'm always interested in such things.

It indicates patriotism more than anything, as much as I would like it to represent separatism. I suppose it does indicate a clear sense of nationality and separateness from the UK - in England they fly Union Jacks as much as we fly Scottish ones.

Speaking of flags, I thought this was quite a... powerful image.

I came and left through Scotland. The main destination was the Lake District, but we used the ferry to Scotland to get there. We couldn't pass by Portwilliam and Wigtown though, and I found both (Especially given the weather) very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed the big bookshop in Wigtown, and bought three books from it.

The bookshop in Wigtown is excellent. I would have actually have suggested it to you beforehand. The borders are a very nice area though.

Damn. Our Dutch government now wants to send hundreds of soldiers and police to the crash area to secure it, even if that means ignoring UN voting on it, and/or bypassing the UN security council.

I think CNN said something about Australian cops securing the site *shrug*.

From the Dutch point of view, it's pretty understandable. Though I'm not sure how Russia will react to that.

Label it blatant western provocation most likely.  They wont call it a prelude to invasion though, Putin started downplaying that a few days ago.

The article linked there says the Dutch government would want approval from both Ukraine AND Russia.

Well, if Russia doesn't approve, then it kind of makes them look implict or trying to hide something.

I suppose Russia might reluctantly approve if they aren't going to fight the rebels or something.

Dutch is a part of NATO. Allowing "hundreds of Dutch soldiers" onto the country which is 1) not in NATO, 2) has a large land border with the main target opponent of NATO (Russia) and 3) wages a "civil war" right next to the area where they want to deploy is very much against our doctrine.

It's a prelude to invasion, got it.

Keep murdering Dutch people and you might just have a NATO intervention before you think.
