Nah, mostly just lobbyists and rich people's party. It pretty much goes like this: If you're poor/middle class and afraid of "those damn communists", you vote CDU. If you're rich and afraid of "those damn communists", you vote FDP.

And I'm guessing that if you are those damn communists, you vote Die Linke?

Naah, true Communists vote for the MLPD or something like that. Die Linke is basically just a reservoir for Eastern German local politicians (they do a very good job there), ex-SED people (Gysi, I'm looking at you), populists of the "The rich have money, that's why the poor exists! EVERYONE MUST HAVE EQUAL MONIES!"-type, and a few sharp thinkers with questionable ideology (Sahra Wagenknecht).

TL;DR: FUCK Die Linke, vote SPD.

Arte, which is a hilariously weird German-French bilingual and bi-cultural station that has been described as "the station that everyone likes, but nobody watches". (It's awesome, and you should totally watch it.)
Arte makes up for like a third of my TV time. Another third is the Five (which is also cultural/documentaries oriented. Probably the second most intelligent channel with Arte), and the last Third is the news on the public (tax-funded) Two.

Two as in ZDF? Or are you not part of that weird blob of provinces between western Russia and eastern France? :P

nope, france. It's just that some of our channels don't have proper names, so we call them by their numbers. "la deux", "la trois", "la cinq" and "la six" (aka M6, a MTV wannabe). "la un" is also a common nickname for TF1, our fox news equivalent. (if you wonder about "la quatre", it never existed. It's "canal+", a private, paying channel)

Same happens in Belgium.

Which get's confusion if 2 is on five, 5 is on four and one on 199.

Sounds like a redneck kind of statement: "Well there's Fox... And that's it." :P

We have...
"Een", "Vier", "Vijf", "Acht" and "OP12".
Een is the public state-owned channel, and most people like it. Vier is owned by a program production company, Vijf is owned by the largest private TV company and I dunno about the others.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

There's some others too, but the distinction is sometimes fuzzy.

OP12 is also government owned, as is Canvas(intellectuals). Acht is privately owned.

There's also Vitaya, 2B, and some others.
